Equation of state within the EPOS3 model

Transitions between different states of matter and their thermodynamic properties are described by the Equation of State (EoS). A universal representation of the EoS of quantum chromodynamics for the wide range of phase diagrams has yet to be determined. The expectation of the systems to undergo various types of transitions depending on the temperature (T), the chemical potential (μ B ), and other thermodynamic features make solving that puzzle challenging. Furthermore, it needs to be apparent which experimentally measurable observables could provide helpful information for determining EoS. The application of different EoS for hydrodynamical evolution was introduced in the EPOS3 generator, which allows one to study its changing effect on the experimental observables. The family of EoS proposed by the BEST Collaboration was implemented. The critical point location and the strength of criticality variations were investigated with particle yield, transverse momentum spectra, flow, and moments of the net-proton distributions.

Study of the normalized transverse momentum distribution of W bosons produced in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.96 TeV

We present a study of the normalized transverse momentum distribution of W bosons produced in $p\bar{p}$ collisions, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.35 fb -1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider at $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.96 TeV. The measurement focuses on the transverse momentum region below 15 GeV, which is of special interest for electroweak precision measurements; it relies on the same detector calibration methods which were used for the precision measurement of the W boson mass. The measured distribution is compared to different QCD predictions and a procedure is given to allow the comparison of any further theoretical models to the D0 data.

Oscillations of sterile neutrinos from dark matter decay eliminates the IceCube-Fermi tension

IceCube has observed a flux of cosmic neutrinos, with a “bump” in the energy range 10 ≲ E/TeV≲100 that creates a 3σ tension with γ-ray data from the Fermi satellite. This has been interpreted as evidence for a population of hidden cosmic-ray accelerators. Here, we propose an alternative explanation of this conundrum on the basis of cold dark matter which decays into sterile neutrinos after oscillations produce the bump in the cosmic neutrino spectrum.

Constraining the hadronic spectrum and repulsive interactions in a hadron resonance gas via fluctuations of conserved charges

We simultaneously incorporate two common extensions of the hadron resonance gas model, namely the addition of extra, unconfirmed resonances to the particle list and the excluded volume repulsive interactions. We emphasize the complementary nature of these two extensions and identify combinations of conserved charge susceptibilities that allow to constrain them separately. In particular, ratios of second-order susceptibilities like $\chi_{11}^{BQ}/\chi_2^B$ and $\chi_{11}^{BS}/\chi_2^B$ are sensitive only to the baryon spectrum, while fourth-to-second order ratios like $\chi_4^B/\chi_2^B$, $\chi_{31}^{BS}/\chi_{11}^{BS}$, or $\chi_{31}^{BQ}/\chi_{11}^{BQ}$ are mainly determined by repulsive interactions. Analysis of the available lattice results suggests the presence of both the extra states in the baryon-strangeness sector and the repulsive baryonic interaction, with indications that hyperons have a smaller repulsive core than non-strange baryons. Furthermore, the modified hadron resonance gas model presented here significantly improves the description of lattice QCD susceptibilities at chemical freeze-out and can be used for the analysis of event-by-event fluctuations in heavy-ion collisions.
