Components Refurbishment and Chemical Analysis Facility Hot Spot 1 Year 2 Annual Performance Monitoring Report

The Performance Monitoring Report presents the Year 2 operations, maintenance, and monitoring (OM&M) activities for the hydraulic containment system (HCS) Interim Measures (IM) at the Components Refurbishment and Chemical Analysis (CRCA) Facility located at John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida. Year 2 operations extended from September 2020 to August 2021 and included: operation, maintenance and monitoring of the HCS; performance monitoring through collection of groundwater samples; and sub-slab gas and ambient air sampling. The existing hydrogeologic model was also updated. The system is performing as designed, and groundwater data demonstrate contaminant reduction.

Operations and maintenance manual for the linear accelerator (sled)

The Linear Accelerator, a sliding chair which is pulled along a stationary platform in a horizontal axis is described. The driving force is a motor controlled by a velocity loop amplifier, and the mechanical link to the chair is a steel cable. The chair is moved in forward and reverse directions as indicated by the direction of motor rotation. The system operation is described with emphasis on the electronic control and monitoring functions. Line-by-line schematics and wire lists are included.

The Mission Operations Directorate's International Space Station Alpha Hardware Familiarization Role

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Mission Operation Directorate's (MOD) On-Orbit Maintenance Operations Mission Controllers are participating in space station hardware tests and demonstrations in multiple neutral buoyancy facilities. This is part of the controllers' hardware familiarization world in preparation to support the astronauts in the operation and maintenance of the hardware. This paper describes the larger context of Mission Controller hardware familiarization with specifics of participation in the Boeing neutral buoyancy tests. Also covered is what participation has occurred in the past and future plans.

Operation and maintenance requirements of the Army Remotely Piloted Vehicle (RPV)

The Remotely Piloted Vehicle (RPV) system is being developed to provide the Army with a target acquistion, target location, and laser designation capability that will significantly enhance the effectiveness of the artillery. Iterative analyses of the manpower, personnel, and training (MPT) requirements for an RPV system configured to accommodate both a daylight television and a forward looking infrared (FLIR) mission payload subsystem (FMPS) and related support subsystems are examined. Additionally, this analysis incorporates a 24 hour-a-day operational scenario. Therefore, the information presented was developed with a view towards delineating the differences (or deltas) imposed by the new requirements resulting from FMPS/24 hour operating day functions.

GPM Orbital Maintenance Planning and Operations in Low Solar Activity Environment

The orbital maintenance operations of the GPM Core Observatory was predicted to have routine drag makeup maneuvers to maintain the mission orbit. The maneuver frequency and estimated fuel usage calculated prelaunch were very comparable to the actual values observed after launch for the first two years. However, when the solar minimum was being entered, instead of seeing the need for less frequent station keeping maneuvers the operations team had to adjust the maneuver plan operations in order to maintain orbit requirements during the low atmospheric drag period predicted to last as long as 2021. This paper will provide the original plan, requirements and restriction, and the plan changes that were made to adjust to this condition. The document will also discuss lessons learned.

Floating photovoltaic power plants: A review of energy yield, reliability, and operation and maintenance

Photovoltaic (PV) systems are essential for the transition to sustainable energy, reducing fossil fuel dependence and mitigating climate change. Although PV requires minimal land area — PV can meet the European Union's energy needs using only 0.26% of its land — space for deployment is often scarce in densely populated regions. Floating photovoltaics (FPV) offer an effective solution to land-use challenges by installing PV systems on floating structures in water bodies. FPV is a growing niche within PV with a cumulative installed capacity reaching 7.7 GW globally by 2023. Almost 90% of the installed FPV capacity is in Asia, with close to 50% of in China alone, while the Netherlands and France are the largest markets outside Asia. FPV shows strong potential to support climate targets, but still faces challenges like regulatory barriers, cost competitiveness compared to ground-based PV (GPV), and uncertainties about environmental impacts and system reliability. FPV systems are currently installed mainly on sheltered inland waters, such as quarry lakes, irrigation ponds and reservoirs. FPV technical standards are still being developed. Guidelines have been published by the World Bank, DNV, and Solar Power Europe, and emerging national standards from South Korea, China, and Singapore address design, components, and safety. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is working on formal standards for floats, mooring systems, and electrical connectors. However, the published best practices lack quantitative guidance for yield modelling and reliability, which this report aims to address. It provides data-driven insights, models, and parameters essential for accurate energy yield, reliability, and maintenance predictions over FPV systems' lifetimes.

Maintenance and operation of the multispectral data collection and reproduction facilities of the Willow Run Laboratories

The accomplishments in multispectral mapping during 1970 and (fiscal year) 1971 are presented. The mapping was done with the instrumented C-47 aircraft owned and operated by Willow Run Laboratories of The University of Michigan. Specific information for flight operations sponsored by NASA/MSC (Manned Spacecraft Center) in 1970 and fiscal year 1971 is presented, and a total listing of flights for 1968, 1969, 1970, and fiscal year 1971 is included in the appendices. The data-collection and reproduction facilities are described.

A maintenance and operations cost model for DSN

A cost model for the DSN is developed which is useful in analyzing the 10-year Life Cycle Cost of the Bent Pipe Project. The philosophy behind the development and the use made of a computer data base are detailed; the applicability of this model to other projects is discussed.

Advanced solar concentrator mass production, operation, and maintenance cost assessment

The object of this assessment was to estimate the costs of the preliminary design at: production rates of 100 to 1,000,000 concentrators per year; concentrators per aperture diameters of 5, 10, 11, and 15 meters; and various receiver/power conversion package weights. The design of the cellular glass substrate Advanced Solar Concentrator is presented. The concentrator is an 11 meter diameter, two axis tracking, parabolic dish solar concentrator. The reflective surface of this design consists of inner and outer groups of mirror glass/cellular glass gores.

Hall station and camera system operation and maintenance manual

The major components of the Hall station and camera system are described. The Hall film record of an event provides the time of flight of the projectile between the slits. A time mark generator is used to supply extremely short pulses of light at a known frequency. These pulses of light are used to produce timing marks on the edge of the film. Comparison of these marks with the spacing of the projectile images provides the information necessary to determine the time of flight of the projectile. Since the slits are installed with a known separation distance, calculation of the velocity of any object passing both slits is a simple matter.
