Angular analysis of B → K * e + e − in the low- q 2 region with new electron identification at Belle

We perform an angular analysis of the B → K * e + e − decay for the dielectron mass squared, q 2 , range of 0.0008 – 1.1200 GeV 2 / c 4 using the full Belle dataset in the K * 0 → K + π − and K * + → K S 0 π + channels, incorporating new methods of electron identification to improve the statistical power of the dataset. This analysis is sensitive to contributions from right-handed currents from physics beyond the Standard Model by constraining the Wilson coefficients C 7 ( ′ ) . We perform a fit to the B → K * e + e − differential decay rate and measure the imaginary component of the transversality amplitude to be A T Im = − 1.27 ± 0.52 ± 0.12 , and the K * transverse asymmetry to be A T ( 2 ) = 0.52 ± 0.53 ± 0.11 , with F L and A T Re fixed to the Standard Model values. The resulting constraints on the value of C 7 ′ are consistent with the Standard Model within a 2 σ confidence interval. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Ruling out Color Transparency in Quasielastic 12 C(e,e'p) up to Q 2 of 14.2 (GeV/c) 2

Quasielastic $^{12}$C$(e,e'p)$ scattering was measured at space-like 4-momentum transfer squared $Q^2$ = 8, 9.4, 11.4, and 14.2 (GeV/c)$^2$, the highest ever achieved to date. Nuclear transparency for this reaction was extracted by comparing the measured yield to that expected from a plane-wave impulse approximation calculation without any final state interactions. Additionally, the measured transparency was consistent with no $Q^2$ dependence, up to proton momenta of 8.5 GeV/c, ruling out the quantum chromodynamics effect of color transparency at the measured $Q^2$ scales in exclusive $(e,e'p)$ reactions. Furthermore, these results impose strict constraints on models of color transparency for protons.

Measurement of Ω c 0 baryon production and branching-fraction ratio BR ( Ω c 0 → Ω - e + ν e ) / BR ( Ω c 0 → Ω - π + ) in p p collisions at s = 13 TeV

The inclusive production of the charm-strange baryon $Ω^0_c$ is measured for the first time via its semileptonic decay into $Ω$ - e + ν e at midrapidity (|y| < 0.8) in proton-proton (pp) collisions at the center-of mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The transverse momentum (p T ) differential cross section multiplied by the branching ratio is presented in the interval 2 < p T < 12 GeV=c. The branching-fraction ratio BR($Ω^0_c$ → $Ω$ - e + ν e )/BR($Ω^0_c$→ Ω - π + ) is measured to be 1.12 ± 0.22 (stat) ± 0.27 (syst). Comparisons with other experimental measurements, as well as with theoretical calculations, are presented

EPR and 31 P ENDOR Characterization of Pseudo-Jahn–Teller Dynamics and N 2 Activation in Functional Nitrogenase Models, P 3 E M(N 2 ) (M = Fe, Co; E = Si, B, C)

Here, the nominally trigonal, pseudo-Jahn-Teller (PJT)-active, S = ½ N 2 -bound transition-metal complexes, P 3 E M(N 2 ), M = Fe, Co, with three in-plane phosphine-ligands and axial donors, E = Si, B, C, include functional nitrogenase models that catalyze reduction of N 2 to NH 3 . We applied EPR, 31 P ENDOR spectroscopy and DFT computations to characterize the PJT-induced distortions of four selected P 3 E M(N 2 ), revealing how the metal-ion and axial ligand E together tune both PJT dynamics and N 2 activation for reduction. Comparisons reveal an unrecognized correlation between PJT distortion, M-E bond elasticity, and N 2 activation, providing guidelines for designing bioinspired N 2 -reduction catalysts.

Search for hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness in e + e - → $K$ + $D^{*}_{s}$ - $D$ *0 + c.c.*

We report a search for a heavier partner of the recently observed Z cs (3985) - state, denoted as $Z^{'-}_{cs}$, in the process e + e - → $K$ + $D^{*}_{s}$ - $D$ *0 + c.c., based on e + e - collision data collected at the center-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}$ = 4.661, 4.682 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector. The $Z^{'-}_{cs}$ is of interest as it is expected to be a candidate for a hidden-charm and open-strange tetraquark. A partial-reconstruction technique is used to isolate K + recoil-mass spectra, which are probed for a potential contribution from $Z^{'-}_{cs}$ → $D^{*}_{s}$ - $D$ *0 + (c.c.). We find an excess of $Z^{'-}_{cs}$ → $D^{*}_{s}$ - $D$ *0 + (c.c.) candidates with a significance of 2.1σ, after considering systematic uncertainties, at a mass of 4123.5 ± 0.7 stat. ± 4.7 syst. ) MeV/c 2 . As the data set is limited in size, the upper limits are evaluated at the 90% confidence level on the product of the Born cross sections (σ BORN ) and the branching fraction ($\mathcal{B}$) of $Z^{'-}_{cs}$ → $D^{*}_{s}$ - $D$ *0 , under different assumptions of the $Z^{'-}_{cs}$ mass from 4.120 to 4.140 MeV and of the width from 10 to 50 MeV at the three center-of-mass energies. The upper limits of σ BORN ∙ $\mathcal{B}$ are found to be at the level of $\mathcal{O}$(1) pb at each energy. Larger data samples are needed to confirm the $Z^{'-}_{cs}$ state and clarify its nature in the coming years.

Observation of large missing-momentum ( e , e ' p ) cross-section scaling and the onset of correlated-pair dominance in nuclei

Herein we report the first measurement of $x_B$-scaling in $(e,e'p)$ cross-section ratios off nuclei relative to deuterium at large missing-momentum of $350 \leq p_{miss} \leq 600$ MeV/c. The observed scaling extends over a kinematic range of $0.7 \leq x_B \leq 1.8$, which is significantly wider than $1.4 \leq x_B \leq 1.8$ previously observed for inclusive $(e,e')$ cross-section ratios. The $x_B$-integrated cross-section ratios become constant (i.e., scale) beginning at $p_{miss}\approx k_F$, the nuclear Fermi momentum. Comparing with theoretical calculations we find good agreement with Generalized Contact Formalism calculations for high missing-momentum ($> 375$ MeV/c), suggesting the observed scaling results from interacting with nucleons in short-range correlated (SRC) pairs. For low missing-momenta, mean-field calculations show good agreement with the data for $p_{miss}\le k_F$, and suggest that contributions to the measured cross-section ratios from scattering off single, un-correlated, nucleons are non-negligible up to $p_{miss}\approx 350$ MeV/c. Therefore, SRCs become dominant in nuclei at $p_{miss}\approx 350$ MeV/c, well above the nuclear Fermi Surface of $k_F \approx 250$ MeV/c.

Search for invisible decays of a dark photon using e + e – annihilation data at BESIII

We report a search for a dark photon using 14.9 fb –1 of e + e – annihilation data taken at center-of-mass energies from 4.13 to 4.60 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII storage ring. The dark photon is assumed to be produced in the radiative annihilation process of e + e – and to predominantly decay into light dark matter particles, which escape from the detector undetected. The mass range from 1.5 to 2.9 GeV is scanned for the dark photon candidate, and no significant signal is observed. The mass dependent upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the coupling strength parameter ϵ for a dark photon coupling with an ordinary photon vary between 1.6 x 10 –3 and 5.7 x 10 –3 .

Observation of the Y(4230) and a new structure in ${\boldsymbol e^+\boldsymbol e^- \boldsymbol\rightarrow \boldsymbol K^+\boldsymbol K^-\boldsymbol J/\boldsymbol\psi}$

The cross sections of $e^+e^- \rightarrow K^+K^-J/\psi$ at center-of-mass energies from 4.127 to 4.600 GeV are measured based on 15.6 fb -1 data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Two resonant structures are observed in the line shape of the cross sections. The mass and width of the first structure are measured to be ($4225.3\pm2.3\pm21.5$) MeV and ($72.9\pm6.1\pm30.8$) MeV, respectively. They are consistent with those of the established $Y(4230)$. The second structure is observed for the first time with a statistical significance greater than 8σ, denoted as $Y(4500)$. Its mass and width are determined to be ($4484.7\pm13.3\pm24.1$) MeV and ($111.1\pm30.1\pm15.2$) MeV, respectively. The first presented uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The product of the electronic partial width with the decay branching fraction $\Gamma(Y(4230)\to e^+ e^-) \mathcal{B}(Y(4230) \to K^+ K^- J/\psi)$ is reported.

Study of e + e - → Ω - Ω ¯ + at center-of-mass energies from 3.49 to 3.67 GeV

Using data samples of e + e - collisions collected with the BESIII detector at eight center-of-mass energy points between 3.49 and 3.67 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 670 pb -1 , we present the upper limits of Born cross sections and the effective form factor for the process e + e - → $Ω$ - ⁢$\overline{Ω}$ + . A fit to the cross sections using a perturbative QCD-derived energy-dependent function shows no significant threshold effect. The upper limit on the measured effective form factor is consistent with a theoretical prediction within the uncertainty of 1⁢σ. These results provide new experimental information on the production mechanism of $Ω$.

Measurement of the branching fraction of D s + → ℓ + ν ℓ via e + e − → D s * + D s * −

Based on 10.64 fb − 1 of e + e − collision data taken at center-of-mass energies between 4.237 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector, we study the leptonic D s + decays using the e + e − → D s * + D s * − process. The branching fractions of D s + → ℓ + ν ℓ ( ℓ = μ , τ ) are measured to be B D s + → μ + ν μ = ( 0.547 ± 0.02 6 stat ± 0.01 6 syst ) % and B D s + → τ + ν τ = ( 5.60 ± 0.1 6 stat ± 0.2 0 syst ) % , respectively. The product of the decay constant and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element | V c s | is determined to be f D s + | V c s | = ( 246.5 ± 5.9 stat ± 3.6 syst ± 0.5 input ) μ ν and f D s + | V c s | = ( 252.7 ± 3.6 stat ± 4.5 syst ± 0.6 input ) τ ν MeV , respectively. Taking the value of | V c s | from a global fit in the Standard Model, we obtain f D s + = ( 253.2 ± 6.0 stat ± 3.7 syst ± 0.6 input ) μ ν and f D s + = ( 259.6 ± 3.7 stat ± 4.6 syst ± 0.6 input ) τ ν MeV , respectively. Conversely, taking the value for f D s + from the latest lattice quantum chromodynamics calculation, we obtain | V c s | = ( 0.986 ± 0.02 3 stat ± 0.01 4 syst ± 0.00 3 input ) μ ν and | V c s | = ( 1.011 ± 0.01 4 stat ± 0.01 8 syst ± 0.00 3 input ) τ ν , respectively. Analyzing e + e − collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb − 1 collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fraction of the semileptonic decay D s + → K 0 e + ν e to be ( 2.98 ± 0.2 3 stat ± 0.1 2 syst ) × 10 − 3 . Based on fit to the partial decay rates in various q 2 intervals, the product value of D s + → K 0 hadronic form factor and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa element is measured to be f + K 0 ( 0 ) | V c d | = 0.143 ± 0.01 1 stat ± 0.00 3 syst . With | V c d | = 0.22486 ± 0.00067 as an input, the hadronic form factor is evaluated to be f + K 0 ( 0 ) = 0.636 ± 0.04 9 stat ± 0.01 3 syst . The branching fraction and form factor measurements are factors of 1.6 and 1.7 more precise than the previous world averages, respectively. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Measurements of Normalized Differential Cross Sections of Inclusive η Production in e + e − Annihilation at Energy from 2.0000 to 3.6710 GeV

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, the cross section of the inclusive process e + e − → η + X , normalized by the total cross section of e + e − → hadrons , is measured at eight center-of-mass energy points from 2.0000 to 3.6710 GeV. These are the first measurements with momentum dependence in this energy region. Our measurement shows a significant discrepancy compared to the existing fragmentation functions. To address this discrepancy, a new QCD analysis is performed at the next-to-next-to-leading order with hadron mass corrections and higher twist effects, which can explain both the established high-energy data and our measurements reasonably well. e + e – → ZH process in the SMEFT beyond leading order

We systematically study potential effects of Beyond the Standard Model physics in the e + e – → ZH process. To this end, we include all relevant dimension-6 Standard Model Effective Field Theory operators and work to next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy in the electroweak coupling. We consider both polarized and unpolarized electron and positron beams and present results for $\sqrt {s}$ = 240, 365 and 500 GeV, emphasizing contributions where the NLO predictions differ significantly from the leading order results. At NLO, a sensitivity arises to operators that do not contribute at tree level, such as the Higgs tri-linear coupling, CP-violating operators, and dimension-6 operators involving the top quark, among many others. We compare the prospects of future e + e – colliders to explore these new physics effects with existing measurements from the LHC, electron EDMs (for CP violating operators), and Z pole measurements.

Recoil-safe subtraction, matching and merging in e$^{+}$e$^{−}$ → hadrons

We present the first next-to-leading order matched and multi-jet merged predictions based on the Alaric parton shower. The components needed for infrared subtraction in the S-Mc@Nlo algorithm are computed analytically for the case of color singlet decays to hadronic final states and validated against existing approaches for up to e$^{−}$e$^{+}$ → 5 jets. Phenomenological results for e$^{−}$e$^{+}$ → hadrons at the Z pole are obtained with up to five jets at next-to-leading order precision, for the first time using an evolution algorithm with NLL-preserving kinematics mapping.
