Numerical method for treating time transient gas lubrication equation
The specific experimental investigation undertaken was designed to answer these questions on Ti-6Al-4V in the solution treated and aged condition. The defect growth and fracture characteristics were studied in parent (unwelded) and welded sheet material. The results of the study indicate that cryogenic proof testing will screen smaller size defects than proof testing at ambient conditions. However some unusual crack growth behavior during the proof test simulation suggests that some further study be made of stress and time duration effects.

We have shown that heat treatment alone does not produce appreciable degradation of the short-circuit current in Cu2S-CdS single-crystal photovoltaic heterojunctions. The degradation, which has been commonly observed, is the result of optically induced effects in the heat-treated cell, subsequent to the heat treatment. These optically induced effects can be correlated with photochemical changes induced in single crystals of CdS:Cd:Cu in which the density of Cu acceptors exceeds the density of excess-Cd donors. Major conclusions about the mechanism of the photovoltaic effect and heat-treatment processes can be drawn.
The electroencephalographic and behavioral responses during sleep of four subjects, aged 46 to 58 years, to three types of noises were tested over 14 consecutive nights. The stimuli were two DC-8 jet landing noises (each 30 seconds in duration and coming from DC-8 aircraft with and without acoustical treatment on the engine nacelles) and a 4-second burst of pink noise. Each of the noises was tested at nominal intensities of 61 and 79 dBA. Other physical descriptors of the noises were measured or computed. The results indicate that for an equivalent degree of sleep disruption, noise form the jet aircraft with untreated nacelles must be about 6 dBA less intense than the jet with acoustically treated nacelles. Predictions of the effects of noise on sleep appear, tentatively, to attain the highest accuracy when the physical descriptor of noise intensity includes information about the impulsive characteristics of that noise as well as its long-term spectral content.
Current methods of treating complex geometry models for space radiation transport calculations are reviewed. The geometric techniques used in three computer codes are outlined. Evaluations of geometric capability and speed are provided for these codes. Although no code development work is included several suggestions for significantly improving complex geometry codes are offered.
Apparatus performs programed rotating, stretching/shrinking and heat treatment necessary to fabrication of high-performance plastic belts. Belts can be treated in lengths varying from 7 to 48 in., in widths up to 1 in., and in thicknesses up to approximately 0.003 in.
A set of acoustically-treated long-chord vanes was designed to replace the vanes in an existing fan stage to investigate the noise reduction possibilities of both increased stator chord length and a method of incorporating acoustic damping material. The vanes were tested with both active and inactive acoustic surfaces. Results of the inactive tests show significant broadband noise effects with noise reductions in the middle to high frequencies and an increase at low frequencies. No reduction in blade passage tone was observed, but decreases in the overtones were observed. Results of the tests with the active acoustic treatment show large noise reductions over a wide frequency range.
The general preliminary measures for treating insomnia include moderate physical exercise several hours before bedtime, and the relaxation of complex mental activity before bedtime. A case history concerning a woman with marital troubles is offered as evidence that insomnia may be caused by deeply rooted psychological and situational problems. Another case history illustrates how prior pharmacological treatment may complicate the process of clinically evaluating an insomniac.
