Surveyor Project Final Report: Part 2 - Science Results

This two-part document constitutes the Project Final Report on the Surveyor spacecraft. Part I of this Technical Report consists of a technical description and an evaluation of engineering results of the systems used on Surveyor. Part II presents the science data derived from the lunar soft-landing missions, and the scientific analyses conducted by the Surveyor Scientific Evaluation Advisory Team, the Surveyor Investigator Teams, and the associated Working Croups. Results given in this part of this Technical Report are based on data evaluation before June 15, 1968. It is expected that future evaluations and analyses will provide additional science results.

SMS/GOES cell and battery data analysis report

The nickel-cadmium battery design developed for the Synchronous Meteorological Satellite (SMS) and Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) provided background and guidelines for future development, manufacture, and application of spacecraft batteries. SMS/GOES battery design, development, qualification testing, acceptance testing, and life testing/mission performance characteristics were evaluated for correlation with battery cell manufacturing process variables.

Science Results from the Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C/X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SIR-C/X-SAR): Progress Report

The Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C/X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SIR-C/X-SAR) is the most advanced imaging radar system to fly in Earth orbit. Carried in the cargo bay of the Space Shuttle Endeavour in April and October of 1994, SIR-C/X-SAR simultaneously recorded SAR data at three wavelengths (L-, C-, and X-bands; 23.5, 5.8, and 3.1 cm, respectively). The SIR-C/X-SAR Science Team consists of 53 investigator teams from more than a dozen countries. Science investigations were undertaken in the fields of ecology, hydrology, ecology, and oceanography. This report contains 44 investigator team reports and several additional reports from coinvestigators and other researchers.
