Understanding Building Energy Use in Northwestern PA, Ashtabulam, and Chautauqua Counties: Basic Building Stock Characterization

This report is part of a publication series that focuses on approximately 100 different local geographies, or "clusters." Each report provides commercial and multifamily building characteristic and energy data for a local geography, with the intention of helping policymakers at the city, county and state levels better understand building energy use. Specifically, this report breaks down the building stock in the counties shown in Figure 1 by building type, size, energy consumption, and emissions.

Inventory of Clean Energy Education and Workforce Development Programs in Allegheny County, PA

Building on other analysis work completed through the Communities LEAP pilot, this document is intended to provide an overview of: 1) what clean energy and related education and workforce development (EWD) resources already exist in and around the Hill District, 2) gaps in EWD resources, and 3) opportunities to expand clean energy education, training, and job opportunities for Hill District residents.

Clean Energy Workforce and Employment Gap Analysis in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, PA [Slides]

Through Communities LEAP, a community coalition focused on the Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh is working with a technical assistance provider network led by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The coalition includes community organizations, nonprofits, the city government, and the utility. Technical assistance provides analysis and information to support Hill District stakeholders in their goals to create informed residential energy efficiency and renewable energy transition strategies that improve housing conditions and lower energy bills, incorporate energy efficiency and renewable energy strategies into existing, community-driven development efforts; and generate quality local jobs. This presentation provides a summary of potential employment impacts of residential energy efficiency investments in the Hill District, aligned with NREL's housing stock analysis; a scan of existing energy efficiency and clean energy workforce and education stakeholders in and around the Hill District; and gaps and potential opportunities for new or expanded training to align with energy efficiency and clean energy goals.

International Symposium on Combustion, 14th, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pa., August 20-25, 1972, Proceedings.

Some elementary steps for the formation and destruction of nitric oxide in the H-N-O system, high-temperature oxidation of hydrogen by nitrous oxide in shock waves, and high-temperature fast-flow reactor studies of metal-atom oxidation kinetics are among the topics covered in papers concerned with elementary reactions in combustion. Other areas covered include oscillatory, turbulent, and supersonic combustion; flames in furnaces and combustors; and pollutant formation and destruction in flames. Individual items are announced in this issue.

Estimating the quality of pasturage in the municipality of Paragominas (PA) by means of automatic analysis of LANDSAT data

The use of LANDSAT data to evaluate pasture quality in the Amazon region is demonstrated. Pasture degradation in deforested areas of a traditional tropical forest cattle-raising region was estimated. Automatic analysis using interactive multispectral analysis (IMAGE-100) shows that 24% of the deforested areas were occupied by natural vegetation regrowth, 24% by exposed soil, 15% by degraded pastures, and 46% was suitable grazing land.

Determination of the viscosity number of thermoplastics in dilute solution; polyamides (PA)

This West German Standard presents a test used to determine the viscosity number of polyamides and copolyamides which are easily diluted in sulfuric acid, and for other polyamides which are less easily diluted in sulfuric acid, and which are diluted in m-cresol. As formic acid is often used in industry instead of sulfuric acid, this solvent is also presented as an alternative, however, sulfuric acid is preferred because of the thermodynamic solubility characteristics of the polyamides and the handling safety. In addition, it is shown which solvent should be used for each polyamide. Finally, determinations concerning the preparation of the samples are presented. Using the viscosity number, a determination of the molar mass of the polyamides is possible.

Crystal-liquid-vapor equilibrium experiments at high temperature (less than or equal to 1800 C) and low, controlled oxygen and hydrogen pressure (10(-1) to 10(-9) PA)

Evidence from carbonaceous chrondrites points to refractory oxides in the system CaO-MgO-Al2O3-TiO2-SiO2-Fe-O as being among the earliest phases to condense from the solar nebula. It is necessary to establish the equilibrium relationships between the relevant crystalline and amorphous phases before the chemical constraints can be meaningfully applied to models of solar system history. Preliminary experiments on earth show that such experiments are feasible. Earth-based experiments suffer from several unavoidable problems. These problems can be overcome by experimentation in the Space Station where the experiments can be conducted under near static pressure conditions and where total pressure equals the sum of controlled hydrogen and oxygen pressures and can be controlled for periods exceeding several hours.
