Some of the most precise measurements of Higgs boson couplings are from the Higgs decays to 4 leptons, where deviations from the Standard Model predictions can be quantified in the framework of the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT). In this work, we present a complete next-to-leading order (NLO) SMEFT electroweak calculation of the rate for H → ℓ + ℓ − Z which we combine with the NLO SMEFT result for Z → ℓ + ℓ − to obtain the NLO rate for the H → 4 lepton process in the narrow width approximation. The NLO calculation provides sensitivity to a wide range of SMEFT operators that do not contribute to the rate at lowest order and demonstrates the importance of including correlations between the effects of different operators when extracting limits on SMEFT parameters. We show that the extraction of the Higgs trilinear coupling from the decay H → ℓ + ℓ − Z , Z → ℓ + ℓ − in the narrow width approximation strongly depends on the contributions of other operators that first occur at NLO. We derive the Λ b →Λ c form factors for the Standard Model and beyond at second order in heavy quark effective theory, applying the recently proposed residual chiral expansion to reduce the set of unknown subsubleading hadronic functions to a single, highly constrained function, that is fully determined by hadron mass parameters at zero recoil. We fit a form factor parametrization based on these results to all available lattice QCD predictions and experimental data. We find that the constrained and predictive structure of the form factors under the residual chiral expansion is in excellent agreement with lattice QCD predictions and experimental data, as well as prior heavy-quark-effective-theory-based fits.

Electronic structure of the layered van der Waals ferromagnet CrI 3 is studied with self consistent diagrammatic approaches beyond the GW approximation. Considerable improvement in the calculated band gap as compared to the non-self-consistent G0W0 results has been found. Certain spectral features in the valence bands discovered recently by the angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy, are reproduced better when we use full frequency dependent self energy. Density functional theory and the quasiparticle self-consistent GW method which are based on the frequency-independent self energy are unable to resolve these features. The non-locality effects in the diagrams beyond the GW approximation are large for both polarizability and self energy. This finding can potentially have an impact on the development of methods like the GW+DMFT (dynamical mean field theory).
Single-crystal delafossite PdCoO 2 is known to have an extremely low intrinsic impurity concentration of ~0.001%, demonstrating extraordinarily high conductivity with a mean free path of ~20 μm at low temperatures. However, when grown as thin films, the resistivity at room temperature increases by a factor of 3–80 times, depending on the film thickness. Using scanning transmission electron microscopy, we identify different classes of defects for the single crystal vs epitaxial thin film. The dominant defect for single-crystal PdCoO 2 is found to be ribbonlike defects. For the thin films, we identify different types of defects arising in epitaxial thin films mainly due to substrate termination that disrupt the lateral connectivity of the conducting planes. Further, our results are consistent with the high conductivity of single crystals and increased electrical resistivity of the thin films compared to that of single crystals, suggesting that selecting a proper substrate, improving surface quality, and reducing the step density are the keys to enhance the film quality for utilizing PdCoO 2 as a platform for future applications.
In this work Δ learning is used to map orbital-free density functional theory (OF-DFT) ionic forces to the corresponding Kohn-Sham (KS) DFT ionic forces. The development of the approximate force difference in terms of the ion positions is constructed and serves as a stand in for the ground truth force difference. Descriptor vectors for ion configurations are constructed using all distance between ions in conjunction with an indexing based on a nearest neighbor ranking. It is demonstrated that such a scheme of descriptors can uniquely describe an ionic configuration up to a rotation and reflection when no ambiguity in the nearest neighbor ranking exists. How to handle the case when an ambiguity exists in the nearest neighbor ranking is discussed. As a proof of principle, the model is trained and tested on warm dense hydrogen at temperatures between 1 and 15 eV. Once tested, the model was used to perform molecular dynamic simulations of warm dense hydrogen. Furthermore, the resulting energies and pressures are within 1% and 2% of their respective target KS values.
