Assessment of Evaluations for 239 Pu Photonuclear Cross Sections

We have performed an initial assessment of available data libraries for photonuclear reactions on 239 Pu. Specifically, we considered the following five evaluated data libraries: the ENDF/B-VIII.0 and the recently deployed ENDF/B.VIII.1 Evaluated Nuclear Data Files, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Photonuclear Data Library 2019 (IAEA-2019), the Japanese evaluated nuclear data library version 5 (JENDL-5), and the 2023 version of the TALYS Evaluated Nuclear Data Library (TENDL-2023). Each of these libraries were translated form ENDF to GNDS format using FUDGE. For each of the Pu isotopes, we provide a comparison with available experimental data in the EXFOR experimental nuclear reaction database, as well as a rapid quantitative assessment of the quality of the evaluation.

169 Tm(n,$\gamma$) cross section measured at DANCE

During the US nuclear testing program, known tracer materials could be loaded into the device prior to detonation. If those materials had activation products from nuclear reactions, they could be recovered and counted post-test to study how they transmuted during the neutron exposure. This information may be used to try to infer information about the physical conditions during the detonation. These materials are often referred to as “radiochemical detectors” or “radiochemical tracers”. Thulium, which has only one stable isotope, thulium-169, is one such material that may be employed as a detector.

Neutrino-Argon Cross-Section Measurements from the MicroBooNE Experiment

MicroBooNE is a liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) neutrino detector located along the Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam and 8 degrees off-axis to the Neutrinos at the Main Injector beam. MicroBooNE collected data from both beams accumulating a large neutrino-argon scattering dataset with a mean neutrino energy of approximately 0.8 GeV. Understanding neutrino-argon interactions is crucial for the next generation of neutrino oscillation experiments including DUNE. MicroBooNE has developed pioneering methodologies and novel reconstruction tools in order to benchmark models at very high sensitivity across the interaction phase space, including for ultra-rare channels. This talk will give an overview of the most recent MicroBooNE neutrino interaction results. These measurements provide invaluable datasets for constraining backgrounds and improving the modelling of neutrino scattering critical for the broader LArTPC neutrino physics program.

Cross-section SEM-EDS Analysis of Corroded 316 Steel Samples Using JEOL 6610 SEM

Comparison of SEM images obtained for samples 316H-1, 5, 7, and 10 revealed that samples 1 and 5 were subjected to more corrosion than the other two samples. Pores of an average of 1µm size were also observed scattered near the edge of each sample. Corrosion layer thickness was measured from edge of the corroded surface to the pore region. It was found that 316H-1 and 316H-5 had more corrosion damage with 82.40µm and 100µm respectively. Sample 316H-5 posed a challenge in measuring the corrosion layer thickness due to it breaking off from the parent sample during polishing. Samples 316H-7 and 316H-10 are less corroded with 26.57µm and 39.94µm thickness respectively.

Toward $\nu_{\mu}$CC $\eta$ Meson Cross Sections on Argon in SBND

The modeling of resonant neutrino interactions on argon is critical for achieving precision neutrino oscillation measurements and searching for physics beyond the Standard Model with both DUNE and the Short-Baseline Neutrino Program. Higher mass resonances beyond the $\Delta$(1232) baryon are particularly poorly constrained experimentally, and yet contribute a significant rate in multi-GeV interactions. The measurement of $\eta$(548) meson production from the decay of these resonances provides a unique probe, as well as the opportunity to measure observables sensitive to final state interactions with the nucleus. This poster will present progress towards the measurement of meson production with the Short-Baseline Near Detector (SBND) at Fermilab, leveraging the clean $\eta \rightarrow \gamma \gamma$ decay channel. The large statistics of the SBND dataset will provide high-precision measurements of this channel capable of constraining uncertainties in the modeling of higher order resonant interactions. This analysis further provides important handles on electromagnetic shower reconstruction performance through evaluation of the 548 MeV $\eta$ invariant mass peak.
