mDNS to support local price server discovery with OpenADR 3 (mDNS for OpenADR 3) v1.0

This software contains a template VEN with local VTN service discovery over mDNS. It provides common starter code for an OpenADR3.0 VEN that advertises itself over mDNS, conducts local VTN service discovery over mDNS, connects to the VTN over HTTP(S), and regularly polls and acts on energy prices and events hosted on the VTN. The software is written to be easily modified to accommodate different VEN appliances, VEN-VTN networking protocols, user interfaces, and default responses, given the wide range of possible use cases for local price server discovery. OpenADR3.0 is an open communications standard from the OpenADR Alliance that is designed to provide two-way information exchange regarding e.g., dynamic price and event signals to utility applications, so that customers can modify their energy usage to save money and reduce their carbon footprint.

Ultra spin liquid in Lu 3 Cu 2 Sb 3 O 14

Abstract We analyze recent measurements of C / T , specific heat C divided by temperature T , of a recently observed ultra spin liquid. The measurements are carried out in magnetic fields on the triangular lattice compound . We show that the obtained heat capacity formed by the ultra spin liquid as a function of temperature T vs. magnetic field B behaves very similar to the electronic specific heat of the HF metal and the quantum magnet . We demonstrate that the effective mass of spinon exhibits the universal scaling coinciding with scaling observed in heavy-fermion (HF) metals and in . Based on these observations we conclude that a strongly correlated spin liquid determines the thermodynamic properties of the ultra spin liquid of .

A fast particle-based approach for calibrating a 3-D model of the Antarctic ice sheet

We consider the scientifically challenging and policy-relevant task of understanding the past and projecting the future dynamics of the Antarctic ice sheet. The Antarctic ice sheet has shown a highly nonlinear threshold response to past climate forcings. Triggering such a threshold response through anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions would drive drastic and potentially fast sea level rise with important implications for coastal flood risks. Previous studies have combined information from ice sheet models and observations to calibrate model parameters. These studies have broken important new ground but have either adopted simple ice sheet models or have limited the number of parameters to allow for the use of more complex models. These limitations are largely due to the computational challenges posed by calibration as models become more computationally intensive or when the number of parameters increases. Here, we propose a method to alleviate this problem: a fast sequential Monte Carlo method that takes advantage of the massive parallelization afforded by modern high-performance computing systems. We use simulated examples to demonstrate how our sample-based approach provides accurate approximations to the posterior distributions of the calibrated parameters. The drastic reduction in computational times enables us to provide new insights into important scientific questions, for example, the impact of Pliocene era data and prior parameter information on sea level projections. These studies would be computationally prohibitive with other computational approaches for calibration such as Markov chain Monte Carlo or emulation-based methods. We also find considerable differences in the distributions of sea level projections when we account for a larger number of uncertain parameters. For example, based on the same ice sheet model and data set, the 99th percentile of the Antarctic ice sheet contribution to sea level rise in 2300 increases from 6.5 m to 13.1 m when we increase the number of calibrated parameters from three to 11. With previous calibration methods, it would be challenging to go beyond five parameters. Here, this work provides an important next step toward improving the uncertainty quantification of complex, computationally intensive and decision-relevant models.

X-Ray Phase Contrast Imaging for Dynamic Material Mix Experiments, LAO-003-17, Year 3 of 3

X-ray phase contrast imaging with transmission gratings for density profile measurements has been developed and tested for dynamic experimental applications. Talbot-Lau x-ray deflectometry is a new method of measuring x-ray refraction in addition to attenuation and ultrasmall-angle scattering that has recently been developed for static imaging, primarily for medical and industrial applications. To obtain density profiles from fast-evolving systems, we must use a flash x-ray source with a spot size much larger than the continuous microfocus sources of static imaging systems, and we can obtain only a single exposure. The challenges to measuring electron density profiles of two mixed elements from a single-image, low spatial resolution system are addressed, and initial results from the first dynamic experiments with one such system, conducted on a gas launcher at the end of FY 2018 and beginning of FY 2019, are presented. In FY 2019, we designed and built a new deflectometer designed for detonator experiments to test new techniques to improve the sensitivity and reliability of the diagnostic.

An Architectural Survey of the Area 25 Nuclear Rocket Development Station, Nevada National Security Site, Nye County, Nevada, Volume 3 Of 3

The purpose of the current architectural survey is to record the Nuclear Rocket Development Station (NRDS) district, which is recommended eligible for listing to the NRHP under all four criteria as the testing center for the Rover/NERVA (Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Application) program from the initial boundary survey in 1956 to the end of nuclear rocket development on January 5, 1973. Resources in the NRDS district were evaluated to determine if they are eligible for listing to the National Register as district contributors. The current survey identified the Reactor Control Point subdistrict to provide a temporal, spatial, and functional framework for organizing the resources involved in the NRDS operations. However, the subdistrict was not evaluated as a potential historic district against the Secretary of Interior’s Significance Criteria.

MassIVE MSV000085948 - Utilization of syringyl lignin-derived compounds and production of 2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylic acid by Pseudomonas putida KT2440: Lignin is an abundant aromatic polymer formed in plants by coupling reactions of p-coumaryl, coniferyl, and sinapyl alcohols. Pseudomonas putida KT2440 (P. putida KT2440), a robust soil bacterium, naturally catabolizes many aromatic compounds derived from lignin as carbon and energy sources and has been extensively engineered to valorize guaiacyl (G) and p-hydroxyphenyl (H) lignin-derived aromatic species to valuable chemicals. However, only a few studies report the capacity of Pseudomonads to grow on syringyl (S) lignin-derived compounds. In this work, we demonstrate that P. putida KT2440 catabolizes syringate in the presence of an auxiliary energy source. Overexpression of vanAB, encoding a native Rieske non-heme iron monooxygenase, enabled catabolism of syringate and syringaldehyde without an additional carbon and energy source. In vitro biochemical characterization of VanAB confirmed that this enzyme O-demethylates syringate to 3-O-methylgallate and, subsequently, 3-O-methylgallate to gallate, albeit 4- and 55-fold less efficiently than vanillate, respectively. Transcriptomics and proteomics experiments demonstrate that the galADBC transcripts and enzymes required for gallate catabolism are induced when vanAB is overexpressed during cultivation in syringate. Further, we show that that the endogenous protocatechuate-3,4-dioxygenase PcaHG ring-opens gallate to produce 2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylic acid (PDC), a promising bio-based chemical. Constitutive overexpression of vanAB and pcaHG along with galA deletion enabled PDC production from SA at a 70% (mol/mol) yield. Furthermore, leveraging the LigAB dioxygenase from Sphingobium sp. SYK-6 and VanAB O-demethylase from Pseudomonas sp. HR199 enabled simultaneous conversion of monomers with S-, G-, and H-type functionality to PDC at 82% (mol/mol) yield. Overall, this study elucidates a native pathway for catabolism of syringyl lignin-derived compounds in P. putida KT2440 and demonstrates the potential of this robust host for biological funneling of substrates derived from all three canonical monolignols.
