2025 Annual INMM Graph and Tables for High Purity Germanium Detector Normalization Presentation

The data set includes gamma spectroscopy peak data for measurements taken with two different high purity germanium detectors using a mixed nuclide source and a U-235 fuel rod. There are a total of 5 specific energy peaks that were analyzed for the mixed nuclide source stemming from Am-241, Cd-109, Cs-137, and Co-60. There are a total of 3 specific energy peaks that were analyzed for the U-235 fuel rod. The data set includes the calculations and results from using a linear correction factor, absolute efficiency curve, and relative efficiency curve to compare the net peaks counts from two different detectors.

Bigpicc: a graph-based approach to identifying carcinogenic gene combinations from mutation data

Abstract Genome data from cancer patients represents relationships between the presence of a gene mutation and cancer occurrence in a patient. Different types of cancer in human are thought to be caused by combinations of two to nine gene mutations. Identifying these combinations through traditional exhaustive search requires the amount of computation that scales exponentially with the combination size and in most cases is intractable even for cutting-edge supercomputers. We propose a parameter-free heuristic approach that leverages the intrinsic topology of gene-patient mutations to identify carcinogenic combinations. The biological relevance of the identified combinations is measured by using them to predict the presence of tumor in previously unseen samples. The resulting classifiers for 16 cancer types perform on par with exhaustive search results, and score the average of 80.1% sensitivity and 91.6% specificity for the best choice of hit range per cancer type. Our approach is able to find higher-hit carcinogenic combinations targeting which would take years of computations using exhaustive search.

ERAD: A Graph-Based Tool for Energy Resilience Analysis of Electric Distribution Systems

Understanding the impact of extreme events on people's ability to access energy is crucial for designing resilient energy systems. In the event of a disaster, damage to the electric system and related infrastructure (e.g., downed power lines, flooded equipment, hacked communication systems, damaged roads, etc.) can impact people's access to critical services, including not just electricity but also shelter, food, healthcare, and more. There is a key need to understand such impacts better and evaluate options to improve energy resilience. The Energy Resilience Analysis for Electric Distribution Systems (ERAD) tool is a free and open-source software package designed to help researchers and decision-makers analyze and improve energy system resilience.

Model and Standard Operating Procedures Supporting Signal Variation Flow Graph Analysis

This document will describe the principles of the Signal Variation Flow Technique, and the uncertainty models generated using it. We focus on the capture of the variation between the ideal signal and the measured signal. The ideal signal is defined to represent the signal output of a system whose full state behavior is known, with no variation in environment or during operation, and whose photons trajectories are not modified by the object. A CT uncertainty analysis is the result of two main steps. First, the radiography regime extends from the source to the collected image, which is 2D in the case of standard CT. This maps all upstream uncertainties into the variation observed on the radiograph and captures all variation in the physical domain. Second, the reconstruction regime extends from the captured images to the reconstructed 3D image. This regime is purely in the mathematical domain and corrects reconstruction algorithm artifacts/anomalies. The present work focuses on building the model through the radiography regime. The reconstruction regime is expected to be largely a study of algorithmic sensitivity, requiring the definition of a range of standardized tests through which the algorithms would be run. Radiographic variation would then be mapped through reconstruction sensitivities to predict the signal variation in the final image. An incomplete list for the reconstructed image variation output basis includes voxel density, edge blur and length variation, in analogous fashion to the basis functions presented in this work. The signal variation occurs in several forms at the radiograph. These forms are gathered into a complete basis set of functions describing all variation on the radiograph. The scale of each basis function is calculated independently via a specific SVFG. This includes 0D pixel noise (0DI), 0D energy noise (0DE), 1D blur (1DB), 1D length (1DL) or 2D position (2DP). These models are orthogonal in that they each explore a space in the signal variation domain that cannot be reached by the other basis functions. The variation basis functions, and associated SVFG models are split by output dimensionality, a term loosely used for categorization, and explained further below.

Integrating PGAS and MPI-based Graph Analysis

This project demonstrates that Chapel programs can interface with MPI-based libraries written in C++ without storing multiple copies of shared data. Chapel is a language for productive parallel computing using global address spaces (PGAS). We identified two approaches to interface Chapel code with the MPI-based Grafiki and Trilinos libraries. The first uses a single Chapel executable to call a C function that interacts with the C++ libraries. The second uses the mmap function to allow separate executables to read and write to the same block of memory on a node. We also encapsulated the second approach in Docker/Singularity containers to maximize ease of use. Comparisons of the two approaches using shared and distributed memory installations of Chapel show that both approaches provide similar scalability and performance.
