Between-bearing shaft seal, a concept

Placing the shaft seals, in an oxidizer pump, between the pump bearings, reduces the shaft overhang length and overall turbopump length. This arrangement of the components in the pump removes the seals from the hot turbine region.

Electron beam selectively seals porous metal filters

Electron beam welding selectively seals the outer surfaces of porous metal filters and impedances used in fluid flow systems. The outer surface can be sealed by melting a thin outer layer of the porous material with an electron beam so that the melted material fills all surface pores.

High-pressure seals for rotary shafts

High pressure seals for rotating shafts are machined from a polyimide resin. It is more durable and cheaper than the older seals of plastic coated metal and works at temperatures between - 400 degrees and plus 900 degrees f.

Sealed container sampling device

Sampling device, by means of a tapered needle, pierces a sealed container while maintaining the seal and either evacuates or pressurizes the container. This device has many applications in the chemical, preservative and battery-manufacturing industries.

High-temperature, long-life polyimide seals for hydraulic actuator rods

Two types of polyimide seals are developed for hydraulic actuator rod in low pressure second stage of two-stage configuration. Each seal melts test objectives of twenty million cycles of operation at 534 K. Analytical and experimental study results are discussed. Potential applications are given.
