The HEAO 1 A-4 catalog of high-energy X-ray sources

Results are reported from an all-sky survey carried out at high X-ray energies (13-180 keV) from August 1977 until January 1979 using data obtained with the UCSD/MIT Hard X-Ray and Low-Energy Gamma-Ray Instrument on the HEAO 1 satellite. Visual displays are presented which indicate qualitatively the location, intensities, and time variability of the detected high-energy X-ray sources. A model-dependent procedure for the quantitative analysis of the sky survey data is described. The results of this procedure are presented in tabular form and include fitted count rates in four broad energy bands for about 70 sources. All sources which were detected at a level of statistical significance of not less than about 6 sigma were clearly evident in the visual displays of sky survey data. The survey is therefore complete, except in regions of source confusion, down to an intensity level of about 1/75 of the Crab Nebula in the 13-80 keV band. Forty-four sources were detected in the 40-80 keV energy band, and 14 were detected in the 80-180 keV band. Although most of the detected sources are galactic, seven are extragalactic.

Submillimeter, millimeter, and microwave spectral line catalog

This report describes a computer accessible catalogue of submillimeter, millimeter, and microwave spectral lines in the frequency range between 0 and 10000 GHz (i.e., wavelengths longer than 30 micrometers). The catalogue can be used as a planning guide or as an aid in the identification and analysis of observed spectral lines. The information listed for each spectral line includes the frequency and its estimated error, the intensity, lower state energy, and quantum number assignment. The catalogue has been constructed using theoretical least squares fits of published spectral lines to accepted molecular models. The associated predictions and their estimated errors are based upon the resultant fitted parameters and their covariances. Future versions of this catalogue will add more atoms and molecules and update the present listings (151 species) as new data appear. The catalogue is available from the authors as a magnetic tape recorded in card images and as a set of microfiche records.

Data catalog series for space science and applications flight missions. Volume 4A: Descriptions of meteorological and terrestrial applications spacecraft and investigations

The National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC) provides data from and information about space science and applications flight investigations in support of additional studies beyond those performed as the principal part of any flight mission. The Earth-orbiting spacecraft for investigations of the earth and its atmosphere is discussed. Geodetic tracking data are included in this category. The principal subject areas presented are meteorology and earth resources survey, and the spacecraft selection is made according to those subjects. All experiments on board the spacecraft are described. No attempt is made to reference investigations that are related to the above disciplines, but that are described in other volumes of this series.

Spatial characteristics of observed precipitation fields: A catalog of summer storms in Arizona, Volume 1

Eight years of summer raingage observations are analyzed for a dense, 93 gage, network operated by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, in their 150 sq km Walnut Gulch catchment near Tucson, Arizona. Storms are defined by the total depths collected at each raingage during the noon to noon period for which there was depth recorded at any of the gages. For each of the resulting 428 storms, the 93 gage depths are interpolated onto a dense grid and the resulting random field is anlyzed. Presented are: storm depth isohyets at 2 mm contour intervals, first three moments of point storm depth, spatial correlation function, spatial variance function, and the spatial distribution of total rainstorm depth.

Spatial characteristics of observed precipitation fields: A catalog of summer storms in Arizona, Volume 2

The parameters of the conceptual model are evaluated from the analysis of eight years of summer rainstorm data from the dense raingage network in the Walnut Gulch catchment near Tucson, Arizona. The occurrence of measurable rain at any one of the 93 gages during a noon to noon day defined a storm. The total rainfall at each of the gages during a storm day constituted the data set for a single storm. The data are interpolated onto a fine grid and analyzed to obtain: an isohyetal plot at 2 mm intervals, the first three moments of point storm depth, the spatial correlation function, the spatial variance function, and the spatial distribution of the total storm depth. The description of the data analysis and the computer programs necessary to read the associated data tapes are presented.

A catalog of ultraviolet interstellar extinction excesses for 1415 stars

Ultraviolet interstellar extinction excesses are presented for 1415 stars with spectral types B7 and earlier. The excesses with respect to V are derived from Astronomical Netherlands Satellite (ANS) 5-channel UV photometry at central wavelengths of approximately 1550, 1800, 2500, and 3300 A. A measure of the excess extinction in the 2200-A extinction bump is also given. The data are valuable for investigating the systematics of peculiar interstellar extinction and for studying the character of UV interstellar extinction in the general direction of stars for which the extinction-curve shape is unknown.

Reliable samples of quasars and hot stars from a spectrophotometric survey of the U.S. catalogs

The U.S. survey for blue- and ultraviolet-excess starlike objects is reviewed, focusing on the features which have contributed to its accuracy. The spectrophotometric survey is described in terms of the observational setup and procedures. It is suggested that the survey has produced reliably classified samples of quasars and hot evolved stars and that the procedures used in the study provide a means of deriving distance and luminosity information about these objects. Several cumulative number counts and spectra of a DA white dwarf and a quasar with prominent C IV and C III emission are given as examples.

The V3, V4 and V6 bands of formaldehyde: A spectral catalog from 900 cm(-1) to 1580 cm(-1)

The results of a complete high resolution study of the three vibration-rotation bands v sub 3, v sub 4, and V sub 6 using both TDLs and FT-IR spectroscopy are presented. The reults are given in terms of a table of over 8000 predicted transition frequencies and strengths. A plot of the predicted and calculated spectra is shown. Over 3000 transitions were assigned and used in the simultaneous analysis of the three bands. The simultaneous fit permitted a rigorous study of Coriolis and other type iterations among bands yielding improved molecular constants. Line intensities of 28 transitions measured by a TDL and 20 transitions from FTS data were used, along with the eigenvectors from the frequency fitting, in a least squares analysis to evaluate the band strengths.
