Anisotropic Thermal Conductivity Oscillations in Relation to the Putative Kitaev Spin Liquid Phase of α-RuCl 3

In the presence of an external magnetic field, the Kitaev model could host either gapped topological anyons or gapless Majorana fermions. In α-RuCl 3 , the gapped and gapless cases are only separated by a 30° rotation of the in-plane magnetic field vector. The presence or absence of the spectral gap is key for understanding the thermal transport behavior in α-RuCl 3 . Here, we study the anisotropy of the oscillatory features of thermal conductivity in α-RuCl 3 . We examine the oscillatory features of thermal conductivities (κ / / a, κ / / b) with fixed external fields and find distinct behavior for the gapped (B / / a) and gapless (B / / b) scenarios. Furthermore, we track the evolution of thermal resistivity (λ α ) and its oscillatory features with the rotation of in-plane magnetic fields from B / / b to B / / a. The thermal resistivity λ(B, φ) displays distinct rotational symmetries before and after the emergence of the field-induced Kitaev spin liquid phase. These results suggest that oscillatory features of thermal conductivity in α-RuCl 3 are closely linked to the putative Kitaev spin liquid phase and its excitations.

Qubit-Oscillator Concatenated Codes: Decoding Formalism and Code Comparison

Concatenating bosonic error-correcting codes with qubit codes can substantially boost the errorcorrecting power of the original qubit codes. It is not clear how to concatenate optimally, given that there are several bosonic codes and concatenation schemes to choose from, including the recently discovered Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) – stabilizer codes [Phys. Rev. Lett. 125, 080503 (2020)] that allow protection of a logical bosonic mode from fluctuations of the conjugate variables of the mode. We develop efficient maximum-likelihood decoders for and analyze the performance of three different concatenations of codes taken from the following set: qubit stabilizer codes, analog or Gaussian stabilizer codes, GKP codes, and GKP-stabilizer codes. We benchmark decoder performance against additive Gaussian white noise, corroborating our numerics with analytical calculations. We observe that the concatenation involving GKP-stabilizer codes outperforms the more conventional concatenation of a qubit stabilizer code with a GKP code in some cases. We also propose a GKP-stabilizer code that suppresses fluctuations in both conjugate variables without extra quadrature squeezing and formulate qudit versions of GKP-stabilizer codes.

Suppression of Parasitic Voltage Oscillation in Power Modules by Turn-Off Current Zero Placement

This paper presents a frequency-domain analysis of the turn-off equivalent switching network of a hard-switched semiconductor switching cell. This paper also proposes a novel method to suppress parasitic voltage ringing by placing the turn-off current zero at the parasitic resonant frequency. The turn-off current was decomposed into ramp functions and a constant-valued function to facilitate obtaining the frequency components of the turn-off current using the Laplace transform of standard signals. The proposed frequency-domain modeling of the parasitic voltage ringing and the suppression were validated by detailed circuit simulation using parameters corresponding to prior literature with experimental validation.
