We consider a recently discovered mathematical correspondence between the spectra of a naively discretized lattice fermion and that of a periodically driven (i.e., Floquet) quantum system and enhance it into an infrared equivalence between the two systems. The equivalence can be framed as a duality relation, allowing us to simulate a two-flavor discrete-time fermion theory on the lattice side, where the two flavors arise from time discretization, using a single-flavor fermion theory on the Floquet side. Our demonstration establishes an equivalence between (i) the fermion content, (ii) the correlation functions, and consequently (iii) observables of the two theories in the infrared, going substantially beyond the previously discovered spectral equivalence. We also show how interactions may be incorporated into this enhanced infrared equivalence.
Here, we applied time-varying air pressure to a PV module containing newly cracked cells. The test used a new dynamic mechanical acceleration (DMX) apparatus. We applied pressure cycles similar to natural, wind-driven cycles. Compared to standard dynamic mechanical load (DML) tests, we applied much lower pressure (10 Pa to 300 Pa RMS) and many more cycles (one million at each of four pressure levels). We present a case study on a single cell in a commercial module. We monitored electrical continuity loss across cracks using electroluminescence (EL) imaging. 10 Pa pressure cycles caused negligible change. 30 Pa pressure cycles caused permanent damage that continued worsening even after tens of thousands of cycles. After one million 30 Pa cycles, a series of 100 Pa cycles still caused new, permanent damage to existing cracks. 300 Pa cycles caused further worsening and introduced new cracks.
Road vehicle lane changes often initiate traffic disturbances and can therefore impact road networks’ energy and time efficiency. Furthermore, unexpected changes in traffic conditions may also render lane changes counterproductive for the lane-changing vehicle. Vehicle-to-vehicle connectivity combined with anticipative control could address these challenges via improved lane change decisions by automated vehicles. In a move toward this objective, receding horizon control cast as a mixed-integer quadratic program is used to plan lane changing and acceleration in a coupled optimization. A long-term pacing module, based on Pontryagin’s minimum principle from optimal control theory, sets terminal and input references for receding horizon control to target a user’s expected travel time. To remove nonlinear vehicle dynamics from the receding horizon controller, lane change commands are passed to a pure pursuit steering module whose response is approximated by a second-order linear model. Here, comparison against a rule-based reactive algorithm in arterial and highway scenarios shows an 8.9%–13.7% reduction in energy consumption and a 5.2%–10.3% reduction in the travel time, along with navigational improvements.

The high-reliability operation of three-level inverters is crucial to prevent equipment damage, process downtime, and economic losses. This article investigates a three-level neutral-point-clamped inverter under all possible combinations of open-circuit and short-circuit faults and proposes a new postfault operation method without adding extra hardware. This method provides comprehensive solution for operations after single and multiple-device failures, increasing the inverter reliability by 24%. This article classified postfault modulations and uncovered previously unknown fault scenarios that can be addressed using the proposed control method. A new postfault modulation based on space vector modulation with virtual vectors is proposed. The feasibility of the proposed control method is verified by simulation and an experiment for one fault scenario in a three-level neutral-point-clamped inverter with a 3.73 kW motor load. Furthermore, this article contributes to improving the reliability of three-level inverters.
This work proposes an in-wheel electric vehicle-motor in which the motor windings also act as receiver coils in a wireless charging system. Vehicle wireless charging systems normally include a receiver coil, compensation network, rectifier and battery charger. The proposed concept would eliminate the need for a separate receiver coil. Studies based on two-dimensional finite element analysis are carried out to verify the feasibility of the concept. An external rotor Halbach array rotor with single layer fractional slot concentrated wingdings is found to be a suitable motor topology which would enable the use of one or more motor coils as a receiver coil. The paper also discusses the design modifications and considerations required to enable this.
