Large-Scale Adoption of Self Synchronized Universal Droop Controller-Based Inverters to Enable Ancillary Services for Different Modes of Distribution System Operations

This poster presents the results of using the self-synchronized universal droop controller to enable solar power to provide ancillary services so that the use of solar power can be increased. A 300-node system using the IEEE 123 bus test feeder are modeled on a real time power system simulator with the results presented.

Scalable access to shared files in a distributed system

Logic may pre-populate cache of compute nodes allocated to a user's session. Logic may access an image file of a global filesystem, the image file to comprise a first set of one or more files associated with a user session and a second set of one or more files upon which execution of the first set will depend. Logic may store the image file in local data storage of each compute node of a spanning tree of compute nodes allocated for the user session. Logic may unpack the image file based on the data. Logic may configure the local environment of each compute node in the spanning tree to identify a location in local memory of each of the files. And logic may initiate execution of a local filesystem service in each of the compute nodes of the spanning tree.

Using distributed power electronics-based devices to improve the voltage and frequency stability of distribution systems

Methods include, in response to a line frequency variation of a power grid, adjusting a voltage setpoint of a voltage regulator coupled to the power grid at a grid edge to maintain a voltage at the grid edge, wherein the adjusting the regulated voltage setpoint is configured to reduce the line frequency variation to stabilize the line frequency of the power grid. Apparatus include a voltage regulator configured to couple to a power grid at a grid edge and to maintain a voltage at the grid edge, wherein the voltage regulator is further configured to adjust a voltage setpoint of a voltage regulator in response to a line frequency variation of the power grid to reduce the line frequency variation and stabilize the line frequency of the power grid.

Modifications to the Thermal Energy Distribution System (TEDS)

INL installed a new controls system and a flame detection system on TEDS as part of upgrades that will eventually allow unattended operation and integration with accessory systems, such as digital twins, or facilities in other locations. These upgrades resolve some corrective actions that came about when oil was spilled from a high-point vent during system startup testing.
