Trapezoidal grid fingers to reduce shadowing loss and improve short circuit current

Traditional metallic contacts on solar cells can cover a substantial portion of the device area, resulting in shadowing of light that diminishes the amount of current collected. In this paper, we developed trapezoidal electron-beam evaporated Ti/Al front grid fingers on GaAs single-junction solar cells to decrease the optical shadowing and increase the photogenerated current. Here, we observe a high fill factor of 87% at 1-Sun light intensity and we observe no degradation on the open-circuit voltage. The short-circuit current density is found to increase by 0.4 mA/cm 2 when compared to previously demonstrated electroplated Ni/Au front grid fingers, resulting in an efficiency improvement of ~0.8% absolute.

Loss of MBD2 affects early T cell development by inhibiting the WNT signaling pathway

Highlights: • MBD2 deficiency resulted in retardation of T cell differentiation at the DN3 stage. • Decreased proliferative capacity and increased apoptosis were detected in Mbd2{sup −/−} DN thymocytes. • MBD2 affects early T cell development by regulating the expression of key genes of WNT pathway. DNA methylation alters the expression of certain genes without any alteration to the DNA sequence and is a dynamic process during normal hematopoietic differentiation. As an epigenetic regulator, methyl-CpG-binding domain protein 2 (MBD2) is an important member of the MBD protein family and is acknowledged as a “reader” of DNA methylation. We used a mouse model to study the effects of MBD2 on the early development of T cells. Here, we found that MBD2 deficiency led to retardation of T cell differentiation at the DN3 stage. Meanwhile, decreased proliferative capacity and increased apoptosis were detected in Mbd2{sup −/−} DN thymocytes. Furthermore, we found the WNT pathway was significantly down-regulated in Mbd2{sup −/−} DN thymocytes: DKK1 (Dickkopf-1) expression was significantly increased, while TCF7 (transcription factor 7) and c-MYC were down-regulated. Thus, these findings established that MBD2 acted as a dominant regulator to imprint DN T cell development via the WNT pathway.

Identification of the Elusive Methyl-Loss Channel in the Crossed Molecular Beam Study of Gas-Phase Reaction of Dicarbon Molecules (C 2 ; X 1 Σ g + /a 3 Π u ) with 2-Methyl-1,3-butadiene (C 5 H 8 ; X 1 A')

The crossed molecular beams technique was utilized to explore the reaction of dicarbon C 2 (X 1 Σ g + /a 3 Π u ) with 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene (isoprene, CH 2 C(CH 3 )CHCH 2 ; X 1 A') at a collision energy of 28 ± 1 kJ mol⁻¹ using a supersonic dicarbon beam generated via photolysis (248 nm) of helium-seeded tetrachloroethylene (C 2 Cl 4 ). Here, experimental data combined with previous ab initio calculations provide evidence of the detection of the hitherto elusive methyl elimination channels leading to acyclic resonantly stabilized hexatetraenyl radicals: 1,2,4,5-hexatetraen-3-yl (CH 2 CC•CHCCH 2 ) and/or 1,3,4,5-hexatetraen-3-yl (CH 2 CHC•CCCH 2 ). These pathways are exclusive to the singlet potential energy surface, with the reaction initiated by the barrierless addition of dicarbon to one of the carbon-carbon double bonds in the diene. In combustion systems, both hexatetraenyl radicals can isomerize to the phenyl radical (C 6 H 5 ) through a hydrogen atom assisted isomerization – the crucial reaction intermediate and molecular mass growth species step toward the formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and soot.
