Sea Asymmetry from Polarized W Boson Production

We present the results of a global QCD analysis of helicity parton distribution functions (PDFs) that includes the latest polarized W-lepton production data from the STAR collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC). This data allows the first extraction of a nonzero helicity light-quark sea asymmetry within a simultaneous global QCD analysis of unpolarized and helicity PDFs.

Accelerators for Electroweak Physics and Higgs Boson Studies

We discuss the goals, the designs, the state of technical readiness, and the critical R&D needs of the accelerators that are currently under discussion as Higgs and electroweak factories. We also address the respective staging options enabling future energy-frontier colliders. The accelerators covered are based on many different techniques and approaches. They include several circular colliders, various linear colliders, colliders based on energy recovery linacs (ERLs), ERL-ring combinations, as well as γγ colliders. The linear colliders proposed consist of options for the International Linear Collider (ILC), for the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC), for the Cold Copper Collider (C 3 ), and for the more recent Higgs-Energy Lepton Collider (HELEN). ERLs are key components of the Recycling Linear e + e - Collider (ReLiC),of the Energy Recovery Linear Collider (ERLC), and of the Circular Energy Recovery Collider (CERC). Among the more conventional ring colliders the following proposals are featured: the Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee), the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC), the Electron Positron Circular Collider at Fermilab (EPCCF), and the Large Electron Positron collider #3 (LEP-3). In addition, we consider the X-ray FEL based gamma- gamma Collider Higgs Factory (XCC) and the High-Energy High-Luminosity γ-γ collider (HE&HL γγ). Finally, a Higgs factory based on a circular muon collider is mentioned for completeness.

Extended Gutzwiller Approximation for Nonlocal Electron-Electron and Electron-Boson Correlations (I): The Theory

Understanding electron-electron and electron-photon correlations is central to uncovering the fundamental mechanisms governing material properties, particularly in systems where strong interactions give rise to emergent phenomena such as superconductivity, magnetism, and polaritonic effects. These correlations play a pivotal role in cavity quantum materials, where hybridized light-matter states enable quantum control over electronic properties. However, capturing both local and nonlocal correlations in these systems presents a significant theoretical challenge. In this work, we extend the Gutzwiller wavefunction method to include nonlocal electron-photon and electron-electron interactions, providing a unified framework to study the intricate interplay between these effects. Our approach accurately captures the long-range correlations induced by photon exchange, enabling the exploration of exotic quantum phases and the effects of cavity coupling on electronic structure. By benchmarking the method across coupling regimes, we reveal the critical role of nonlocal correlations in stabilizing phases, such as superconducting and insulating states, that are inaccessible through local interactions alone. This generalized Gutzwiller framework offers a versatile tool for understanding and designing materials that harness the transformative potential of strong light-matter coupling.

Numerical gate synthesis for quantum heuristics on bosonic quantum processors

There is a recent surge of interest and insights regarding the interplay of quantum optimal control and variational quantum algorithms. We study the framework in the context of qudits which are, for instance, definable as controllable electromagnetic modes of a superconducting cavity system coupled to a transmon. By employing recent quantum optimal control approaches described in (Petersson and Garcia, 2021), we showcase control of single-qudit operations up to eight states, and two-qutrit operations, mapped respectively onto a single mode and two modes of the resonator. We discuss the results of numerical pulse engineering on the closed system for parametrized gates useful to implement Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) for qudits. The results show that high fidelity ( > 0.99) is achievable with sufficient computational effort for most cases under study, and extensions to multiple modes and open, noisy systems are possible. The tailored pulses can be stored and used as calibrated primitives for a future compiler in circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED) systems.

Bilocal Field Theory for Composite Scalar Bosons

We give a bilocal field theory description of a composite scalar with an extended binding potential that reduces to the Nambu–Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model in the pointlike limit. This provides a description of the internal dynamics of the bound state and features a static internal wave function, $\phi(\vec{r})$, in the center-of-mass frame that satisfies a Schrödinger–Klein–Gordon equation with eigenvalues m 2 . We analyze the “coloron” model (single perturbative massive gluon exchange) which yields a UV completion of the NJL model. This has a BCS-like enhancement of its interaction, ∝N c the number of colors, and is classically critical with g critical remarkably close to the NJL quantum critical coupling. Negative eigenvalues for m 2 lead to spontaneous symmetry breaking, and the Yukawa coupling of the bound state to constituent fermions is emergent.

Effective actions for bosonic topological defects

A gauge field theory is considered which admits p-dimensional topological defects, expanding the equations of motion in powers of the defect thickness. In this way an effective action and effective equation of motion is derived for the defect in terms of the coordinates of the p-dimensional worldsurface defined by the history of the core of the defect.
