Direct return to Earth after rendezvousing with a comet entails a very high entry velocity. Several methods for reducing the entry velocity, including using additional propellant on a direct return or using planetary gravity assists, are presented.
In this paper, we will present several performance characterization tests, including cycle life at different temperatures, rate capability at various charge/discharge rates and temperatures and real tim and accelerated storage, which were carried out on these prototype cells in support of the Mars exploration missions.
This paper considers the aspect and conclusion that went into the design of the power system that achieves the maximum power with the minimum risk. The power output for the spherical orbiting canister was modeled and plotted in various views of the orbit by the Satellite Orbit Analysis Program (SOAP).
A comprehensive program of robotic Mars exploration is being undertaken in order to address important scientific questions, to investigate whether or not life exists or ever existed on Mars, and to pave the way for eventual human prescence.
