A Multi-Metrics In Situ Aging Detector for SiC Power MOSFET Modules with Full Driver-Integration Capability

In this paper, the concept and prototype of an aging detector for silicon carbide (SiC) power metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) are proposed and described. It leverages the resonant peak values of gate-source voltage at different instants during the switching transients to decode the change of multiple aging indicators, such as the increases of on-state resistance and threshold voltage. Modeling-based analysis is conducted to support the idea. The detector can be fully integrated into gate drivers without any additional connection to the power stage and is functional during normal power stage operation. A prototype unit was built, and preliminary tests were conducted to validate the idea and the practicality of the detector.

Security and Trust Metrics for Edge Computing

The present state of edge computing is an environment of different computing capabilities connected via a wide variety of communication paths. The energy grid is relying upon distributed energy devices connected at the edge of the internet. Consider the scenario where each edge device is customer-owned distributed energy resource (DER) that is connected via a trustworthy link to a grid service provider. Each DER keeps a local simple trust record of interactions. Information protection is provided by internet https standards, however, trust must be evaluated throughout operation. This paper presents a model for representing and evaluating trust in general and applied to the energy grid as a key example. Actors on the edge may interact with each other as well as with a central datacenter.

Linking Threat Agents to Targeted Organizations: A Pipeline for Enhanced Cybersecurity Risk Metrics

In this study, we present a methodology leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) to transform Cybersecurity Threat Intelligence (CTI) narratives into actionable insights for individual organizations. Our approach automates the extraction of machine-readable adversary SKRAM (Skills, Knowledge, Resources, Authorities, and Motivation) attributes from open-source reports, extending LLM utility beyond typical interactions. This innovation enables precise, automated assessments of cybersecurity risks posed by various adversaries. Using a chain-of-thought and multi-shot prompting strategy, our methodology advances the automation of cybersecurity feature extraction for new machine-learning models that predict the risk of adversary targeting. This approach is refined using a substantial dataset of over 150 analyst-validated threat reports and synthetic organizational data from 900 companies. Here, by bootstrapping the training data with a rule-based heuristic over synthetic data, we have developed a high-accuracy machine-learning model that allows entities to dynamically prioritize threats and defensive actions.

Benchmarking Quantum Processor Performance through Quantum Distance Metrics Over An Algorithm Suite

Quantum computing is poised to solve computational paradigms that classical computing could never feasibly reach. Tasks such as prime factorization to Quantum Chemistry are examples of classically difficult problems that have analogous algorithms that are sped up on quantum computers. To attain this computational advantage, we must first traverse the noisy intermediate scale quantum (NISQ) era, in which quantum processors suffer from compounding noise factors that can lead to unreliable algorithm induction producing noisy results. We describe QASMBench, a suite of QASM-level (Quantum assembly language) benchmarks that challenge all realisable angles of quantum processor noise. We evaluate a large portion of these algorithms by performing density matrix tomography on 14 IBMQ Quantum devices.

Automated Realistic Testbed Synthesis for Power System Communication Networks based on Graph Metrics

Communication networks are integral to modern power grid operations and are becoming increasingly critical as grid dynamics speed up and as more controls become closed-loop in form. Focusing on the interdependence between the physical grid and the communication system, we identify several key characteristics and typical graph properties based on analysis of a real communication system for a power grid. Moreover, an automated process was provided for synthetic testbed in the NS-3 simulator for the power system test case, and its network characteristics have been further derived for power system monitoring and control applications

A Nonlinear Least Squares Phasor Estimation Algorithm with a Trust Metric

The paper presents a separable nonlinear least squares (NLLS)-based approach for estimation of fundamental-frequency phasors from sampled point-on-wave measurements. An analytical connection is established between the NLLS cost function and the discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-based periodogram of the input signal. This periodogram-based interpretation of the cost function offers an intuitive and easy-to-implement solution for the frequency estimate. Using the residual error of the NLLS-fit, the paper also presents an insightful measure for ascertaining the quality of the phasor estimates and their validity, especially for data windows containing signal transients.

Quantifying Energy Justice Goals in the Power Sector: Developing and Using Metrics

New policy goals are explicitly guiding the future grid toward greater energy equity. At the same time, policy goals also guide the grid toward decarbonization and resilience, while maintaining cost, security, and reliability cornerstone requirements. In conclusion, these pressures create a dilemma: moving urgently to address climate change and respond to energy disruptions, but also slowly to engage communities on the climate frontlines in earnest.
