System and method for grain refinement and general control of grain morphology in laser additive manufacturing

The present disclosure relates to a system for forming a material layer that may make use of an optical light source for generating an optical beam, and a beam shaping subsystem configured to shape the optical beam to generate a complex beam intensity profile. The complex shaped beam may be used to selectively melt at least portions of a bed of powder particles residing on a substrate during formation of the material layer, as the optical light source is moved. A computer may be used to control the optical light source. The complex beam intensity profile enables control over the microstructure of grains formed during melting of the powder particles as the material layer is formed.

Development and Refinement of DER Steady State Model for QSTS Analysis

EPRI formed a working group of utilities and software vendors called the Distribution Advanced PV Model Working Group (DAWG). The working group has been focused on building consensus regarding the models that represent the reactive power capabilities outlined in Section 5 of IEEE Std 1547™-2018. This report provides an overview of the reactive and active power capabilities specified in IEEE Std 1547™-2018 and outlines a specification of key functions for usage during steady state snapshot and time series power flow analysis. Additionally, it presents a framework for performing tests to verify the correct operation of functions during power flow analysis.

Uncertainty-refined image segmentation under domain shift

A method for digital image segmentation is provided. The method comprises training a neural network for image segmentation with a labeled training dataset from a first domain, wherein a subset of nodes in the neural net are dropped out during training. The neural network receives image data from a second, different domain. A vector of N values that sum to 1 is calculated for each image element, wherein each value represents an image segmentation class. A label is assigned to each image element according to the class with the highest value in the vector. Multiple inferences are performed with active dropout layers for each image element, and an uncertainty value is generated for each image element. The label of any image element with an uncertainty value above a predefined threshold is replaced with a new label corresponding to the class with the next highest value.
