The binder-jetting additive manufacturing using a bimodal particle size distribution is modelled using the ReaxFF reactive molecular dynamics method, which provides an atomistic-level insight into the mechanical and chemical property evolution.
The magnesiothermic reduction is an important reaction as it is a bulk method that produces porous Si for a wide range of applications directly from SiO 2 .

Nanostructuring, structure distortion and/or disorder are the main manipulation techniques to reduce the lattice thermal conductivity and improve the figure of merit of thermoelectric materials. A single-phase α-MgAgSb sample, MgAg 0.97 Sb 0.99 , with high thermoelectric performance in near room temperature region was synthesized through a high-energy ball milling with a hot-pressing method. In this work, we report the average grain size of 24-28 nm and the accurate structure distortion, which are characterized by high-resolution neutron diffraction and synchrotron X-ray diffraction with Rietveld refinement data analysis. Both the small grain size and the structure distortion have a contribution to the low lattice thermal conductivity in MgAg 0.97 Sb 0.99 .

Ferrocyanides with general formula A I x B II y [Fe(CN) 6 ], where A and B are cations, are thought to accept many substitutions on the A and B positions. In this communication, the synthesis and crystal structure of Cs 2 Sr[Fe(CN) 6 ] are reported. The latter was obtained from K 2 Ba[Fe(CN) 6 ] particles, put in contact with caesium and strontium ions. Hence, a simultaneous ion-exchange mechanism (Cs for K, Sr for Ba) occurs to yield Cs 2 Sr[Fe(CN) 6 ]. The synthesis protocol shows that K 2 BaFe(CN) 6 particles can be used for the simultaneous trapping of radioactive caesium and strontium nuclides in water streams. Cs 2 Sr[Fe(CN) 6 ] adopts the cryolite structure type and is isotypic with the known compound Cs 2 Na[Mn(CN) 6 ] [dicaesium sodium hexacyanidomanganate(III)]. The octahedrally coordinated Sr and Fe sites both are located on inversion centres, and the eightfold-coordinated Cs site on a general position.

Purpose Surface quality and porosity significantly influence the structural and functional properties of the final product. This study aims to establish and explain the underlying relationships among processing parameters, top surface roughness and porosity level in additively manufactured 316L stainless steel. Design/methodology/approach A systematic variation of printing process parameters was conducted to print cubic samples based on laser power, speed and their combinations of energy density. Melt pool morphologies and dimensions, surface roughness quantified by arithmetic mean height (Sa) and porosity levels were characterized via optical confocal microscopy. Findings The study reveals that the laser power required to achieve optimal top surface quality increases with the volumetric energy density (VED) levels. A smooth top surface (Sa < 15 µm) or a rough surface with humps at high VEDs (VED > 133.3 J/mm 3 ) can serve as indicators for fully dense bulk samples, while rough top surfaces resulting from melt pool discontinuity correlate with high porosity levels. Under insufficient VED, melt pool discontinuity dominates the top surface. At high VEDs, surface quality improves with increased power as mitigation of melt pool discontinuity, followed by the deterioration with hump formation. Originality/value This study reveals and summarizes the formation mechanism of dominant features on top surface features and offers a potential method to predict the porosity by observing the top surface features with consideration of processing conditions.
