Broadcast control of air traffic

The proceedings of a conference on the Omega navigation system are presented. Three significant low frequency/very low frequency possibilities are considered as follows: (1) use of Worldwide (WW) Omega, (2) use of an Omega-like system optimized for aviation in the continental United States, (3) a mix use of WW Omega and Vor, U.S. Omega and VOR, and U.S./WW Omega. It is concluded that all possibilites can be tested with current plans for WW Omega.

Installation and integration of transonic transport propulsion systems.

Initial work indicates that a viable aircraft family can be designed for higher subsonic cruise speeds. Studies to date suggest that the propulsion system/nacelle design and the incorporation of noise attenuation into this design will have more influence on the choice of an optimum engine than engine weight and fuel consumption. These studies also suggest the payoff resulting from the incorporation of new technology items such as the internal engine generator and new structural cowl concepts because of the greater sensitivity to drag. These factors, plus the greater interdependency of the transonic aircraft and its propulsion system, point up the importance of a total system approach to propulsion system optimization and design.

Modification, static testing and delivery of one servoactuator

The development and performance testing of a servoactuator device are discussed. The detailed information includes the following: (1) modification description, (2) test data to include analyses, test procedures, and test data, (3) conclusions, and (4) recommendations. Diagrams of the servoactuator and photographs of the test equipment are presented. Descriptions of optimized system configurations are developed.
