Systems, method and computer-accessible medium for providing balanced asymmetric interferometry for vibrationally isolated optical scanning probe(s)

An exemplary apparatus can provide radiation to a sample(s), which can include, for example, a radiation source arrangement configured to provide radiation, a beam splitter configured to split the radiation into (i) a first radiation, and (ii) a second radiation. An optical element can also be provided which, in operation, can, e.g., (a) receive the first radiation and the second radiation, (b) reflect the first radiation as a reference radiation, (c) provide the second radiation as illumination for the sample(s), (d) receive a resultant radiation from the sample(s) that can be based on the illumination from the second radiation, and (e) provide the reference radiation and the resultant radiation to be detected and used for interferometric imaging or spectroscopy.

Brine Availability Test in Salt, a Heated Borehole Experiment at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, New Mexico, USA - 20233

The Brine Availability Tests in Salt is a US Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy supported activity as part of the Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition Campaign where we are performing simultaneous heated and control experiments in adjacent horizontal boreholes in the WIPP Salt Disposal Investigation drifts as part of experimental Phase 1. Phase 1a of BATS, a low-cost, small spatial-scale experiment performed in order to design instrumentation and methods for further experimentation in the URL, has been completed (June 2018 - May 2019) and is described elsewhere. In coincidence with multiple physical parameters that will be measured over the duration of the experiment, we will be measuring the liquid and vapor phases of H{sub 2}O as well as its isotopic content (not measured in Phase 1a). Three different forms of water occur in natural salts: as fluid in macro scale (mm size) inclusions, as intergranular free H{sub 2}O and as H{sub 2}O incorporated in hydrous minerals. Each of these forms has potentially different stable isotope signatures and will be influenced differentially by heat induced transport and by interaction with introduced tracers. Continuous measurement of vapor phase H{sub 2}O isotopes during borehole heating will be impacted by several effects: 1) evaporation as liquid brine flows into the borehole and evaporates completely or partially into the dry N{sub 2} stream; 2) steam from dehydration of hydrous minerals, that may enter the borehole; and 3) hydrous minerals that may form in the borehole (preferentially incorporating heavier isotopes). The continuous time series collected over the course of the heating test will be combined with analyses of pre-test and post-test collected samples of test site salt to investigate the contributions of each of the three water types as H{sub 2}O is mobilized due to the effects of heating. Panel Session 25: DOE Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Update 2020

This panel focused on the WIPP operational efficiencies and capital improvement progress in the year 2020. Because WIPP is a key component of the US DOE EM cleanup strategy, the progress on returning WIPP to full design capacity and throughput by 2021 is of importance. Panelists with presentations: Status of WIPP Capital Asset Projects (Stephen Smith); WIPP Update (Sean Dunagan); CBFO Update (Greg Sosson)

Ring resonator with integrated detector for monitoring light comprising an annular detection region that is physically isolated from a waveguide core

Examples described herein relate to a ring resonator. The ring resonator may include an annular waveguide having a waveguide base and a waveguide core narrower than the waveguide base. Further, the ring resonator may include an outer contact region comprising a first-type doping and disposed annularly and at least partially surrounding an outer annular surface of the waveguide base. Furthermore, the ring resonator may include an inner contact region comprising a second-type doping and disposed annularly contacting an inner annular surface of the waveguide base. Moreover, the ring resonator may include an annular detector region disposed annularly at a distance from and covering at least a portion of a surface of the waveguide core and contacting the outer contact region.

A Sub-electron-noise Skipper-CCD Readout ASIC with Improved Channel-to-channel Isolation and an Integrated Cryogenic Voltage Reference

The MIDNA application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) are a series of skipper-CCD readout chips fabricated in a 65 nm low-power CMOS process that implement a correlated double sampling signal processing chain based on dual-slope integrators. They are capable of working from room to cryogenic temperatures, down to 84 K. The present iteration of the ASIC has been fabricated including several design updates and the addition of an on-chip voltage reference, resulting in improved performance. This work presents the main vulnerabilities solved, the changes carried out, and the resulting performance benefits. Measurements with a skipper-CCD and the ASIC at 140 K showed that the single-electron resolution can be reached by averaging the measured charge in the analog domain using the analog pile-up technique with a readout noise as low as 0.11 erms of equivalent charge for 1200 samples. The channel-to-channel crosstalk was also characterized showing values better than -62 dB.

Molecular and Epidemiological Investigation of Fluconazole-resistant Candida parapsilosis —Georgia, United States, 2021

Abstract Background Reports of fluconazole-resistant Candida parapsilosis bloodstream infections are increasing. We describe a cluster of fluconazole-resistant C parapsilosis bloodstream infections identified in 2021 on routine surveillance by the Georgia Emerging Infections Program in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Methods Whole-genome sequencing was used to analyze C parapsilosis bloodstream infections isolates. Epidemiological data were obtained from medical records. A social network analysis was conducted using Georgia Hospital Discharge Data. Results Twenty fluconazole-resistant isolates were identified in 2021, representing the largest proportion (34%) of fluconazole-resistant C parapsilosis bloodstream infections identified in Georgia since surveillance began in 2008. All resistant isolates were closely genetically related and contained the Y132F mutation in the ERG11 gene. Patients with fluconazole-resistant isolates were more likely to have resided at long-term acute care hospitals compared with patients with susceptible isolates (P = .01). There was a trend toward increased mechanical ventilation and prior azole use in patients with fluconazole-resistant isolates. Social network analysis revealed that patients with fluconazole-resistant isolates interfaced with a distinct set of healthcare facilities centered around 2 long-term acute care hospitals compared with patients with susceptible isolates. Conclusions Whole-genome sequencing results showing that fluconazole-resistant C parapsilosis isolates from Georgia surveillance demonstrated low genetic diversity compared with susceptible isolates and their association with a facility network centered around 2 long-term acute care hospitals suggests clonal spread of fluconazole-resistant C parapsilosis. Further studies are needed to better understand the sudden emergence and transmission of fluconazole-resistant C parapsilosis.
