The software developed for the solidification model is presented. A link between the calculations and the FORTRAN code is provided, primarily in the form of global flow diagrams and data structures. A complete listing of the solidification code is given.

The scientific aspects of the Materials Processing in Space program are described with emphasis on the major categories of interest: (1) crystal growth; (2) solidification of metals, alloys, and composites; (3) fluids and chemical processes; (4) containerless processing, glasses, and refractories; (5) ultrahigh vacuum processes; and (6) bioprocessing. An index is provided for each of these areas. The possible contributions that materials science experiments in space can make to the various disciplines are summarized, and the necessity for performing experiments in space is justified. What has been learned from previous experiments relating to space processing, current investigations, and remaining issues that require resolution are discussed. Recommendations for the future direction of the program are included.
The magnetic tape version of the Bonn catalog is described. The catalog contains a listing of supplemental stars having lower case letter designations following the BD numbers after which they have been inserted. A sample catalog is also presented.
The Perth 70 catalog contains accurate positions of 24978 stars, plus other useful data such as approximate proper motions, radial velocities, and parallaxes. The Perth 70 is a result of meridian circle observations made by the Hamburg observatory expedition to Perth as part of the international effort of Southern References Stars (SRS). Tape B, which contains mean values of the observations and corresponds to the printed catalog is described.
The baseline for external interfaces of a 10 to the 13th power bit, optical archival mass memory system (AMM-13) is established. The types of interfaces addressed include data transfer; AMM-13, Data Base Management System, NASA End-to-End Data System computer interconnect; data/control input and output interfaces; test input data source; file management; and facilities interface.
A computer program is presented which achieves a numerical solution for the equations of motion of a noncontacting mechanical face seal. The flexibly-mounted primary seal ring motion is expressed by a set of second order differential equations for three degrees of freedom. These equations are reduced to a set of first order equations and the GEAR software package is used to solve the set of first order equations. Program input includes seal design parameters and seal operating conditions. Output from the program includes velocities and displacements of the seal ring about the axis of an inertial reference system. One example problem is described.
The magnetic tape version of the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory 2 atlases of ultraviolet stellar spectra is described. The first file of the tape contains ultraviolet stellar fluxes for 164 bright stars in lambda the spectral region 1200 to 1300 A with resolutions of 22 A in the region from 3600 to 1850 A and 12 A in the region from 1850 to 1160 A. Files two and three contain spectra for 132 stars in the region lamba 1200 to 1850 A and 34 stars in the lambda region 1800 to 3600 A, respectively, with resolutions as stated above. The monochromatic flux is given in units of ergs cm(-2)s(-1) (-1) for all data.
The magnetic tape version of Volume 2 of the University of Michigan systematic reclassification program for the Henry Draper Catalogue (HD) stars is described. Volume 2 contains all HD stars in the declination range -53 degrees to 40 degrees and also exists in printed form.
The Trajectory Tape Print Program (TRJPR1) was developed to print applicable information from a Space Trajectory tape created by the Mission Planning and Analysis Division (MPAD) in the MPAD Common Format for the on-orbit phase of the Mission. Instructions for TRJPR1's use are given.
The genesis of the solar power satellite (SPS) concept is reviewed historically and the original assumptions and guidelines which led to development of the SPS reference system design concept are discussed. Some guidelines are applicable to almost any SPS design, but others can be changed, leading to new and perhaps preferable systems. In order to stimulate new SPS concepts and to facilitate comparative assessment of emerging SPS technologies, one useful approach is to break the overall system into functional parts. The system functions which must be performed by any SPS concept and the interrelations between them are discussed and a systematic framework is presented for assessing the wide variety of system concepts and subsystem technologies which have been proposed. About 80 alternative SPS technologies are reviewed.
The source listing of a computer code for calculating the flow fields in a supersonic free stream is given. The application of this code to an inlet on an airbreathing missile is also presented.
This program was designed to be an editor for the Lewis Chemical Equilibrium program input files and is used for storage, manipulation and retrieval of the large amount of data required. The files are based on the facility name, case number, and table number. The data is easily recalled by supplying the sheet number to be displayed. The retrieval basis is a sheet defined to be all of the individual flow streams which comprise a given portion of a coal gasification system. A sheet may cover more than one page of output tables. The program allows for the insertion of a new table, revision of existing tables, deletion of existing tables, or the printing of selected tables. No calculations are performed. Only pointers are used to keep track of the data.
