Infrared readout electronics; Proceedings of the Meeting, Orlando, FL, Apr. 21, 22, 1992

The present volume on IR readout electronics discusses cryogenic readout using silicon devices, cryogenic readout using III-V and LTS devices, multiplexers for higher temperatures, and focal-plane signal processing electronics. Attention is given to the optimization of cryogenic CMOS processes for sub-10-K applications, cryogenic measurements of aerojet GaAs n-JFETs, inP-based heterostructure device technology for ultracold readout applications, and a three-terminal semiconductor-superconductor transimpedance amplifier. Topics addressed include unfulfilled needs in IR astronomy focal-plane readout electronics, IR readout integrated circuit technology for tactical missile systems, and radiation-hardened 10-bit A/D for FPA signal processing. Also discussed are the implementation of a noise reduction circuit for spaceflight IR spectrometers, a real-time processor for staring receivers, and a fiber-optic link design for INMOS transputers.

Ancillary Radiometric Product (APR) usage in the EOS/MISR Level 1B radiance product generation

The radiometric response of the EOS-AM1 Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) is to be measured throughout the six-year mission. This paper discusses the investigations and algorithm changes that have occurred in the production of the ARP since launch, and discusses changes to the Level 1B data that might be expected should data be reprocessed.

The Lower Solar Atmosphere During the WHI Campaign (20 Apr-16 May 2008)

The Whole Heliospheric Interval (WHI) period of 20 March - 16 April had a "quiet side" of the Sun, and an "active side," with three ARs. At least two of the ARs produced CMEs, but there were several events that may have been "confined eruptions" from these regions too. Examining the magnetic environment of the erupting regions gives insight into the onset and dynamics of the eruptions. Several of the CMEs can be traced back to likely disk sources, but several unmatched cases still remain. More work is needed to sort through these points.

2nd Generation Airborne Precipitation Radar (APR-2)

Dual-frequency operation with Ku-band (13.4 GHz) and Ka-band (35.6 GHz). Geometry and frequencies chosen to simulate GPM radar. Measures reflectivity at co- and cross-polarizations, and Doppler. Range resolution is approx. 60 m. Horizontal resolution at surface is approx. 1 km. Reflectivity calibration is within 1.5 dB, based on 10 deg sigmaO at Ku-band and Mie scattering calculations in light rain at Ka-band. LDR measurements are OK to near -20 dB; LDR lower than this is likely contaminated by system cross-polarization isolation. Velocity is motion-corrected total Doppler, including particle fall speed. Aliasing can be seen in some places; can usually be dealiased with an algorithm. .
