The “Presidential Memorandum on Reinvigorating America’s Human Space Exploration Program,” (Space Policy Directive-1) charges NASA to: “Lead an innovative and sustainable program of exploration with commercial and international partners to enable human expansion across the solar system and to bring back to Earth new knowledge and opportunities. Beginning with missions beyond low-Earth orbit, the United States will lead the return of humans to the Moon for long-term exploration and utilization, followed by human missions to Mars and other destinations."

In many aerodynamic measurement applications, the ability to make time-accurate measurements with pressure scanners provides practical advantages over making the same measurements directly using flush-mounted transducers. The pneumatic distortion due to the tubing between the sensing module and surface port limits the usefulness of such measurements to averaged, steady data only. This issue has restricted the application of pressure scanners for unsteady pressure measurements in wind tunnel and flight-testing applications. The Wiener-filtered inverse system response model has been proven to be effective in reconstructing complex unsteady pressure signals acquired remotely using pressure scanners. In this work, the feasibility of using pressure scanning systems for time-resolved pressure measurements in the NASA Langley 14- by 22-Foot Subsonic Wind Tunnel was evaluated. Results demonstrated good agreement between the reference transducers and reconstructed pressure scanner measurements up to frequencies of approximately 500 Hz.

ICPSU clearances to the lifting SLS vehicle were computed utilizing a coupled system nonlinear simulation approach in order to accurately capture the impact of system flexibilities, SLS forcing functions, pad separation (twang), ML dynamics and timings • i.e., integrate ICPSU model into a SLS nonlinear Coupled Loads Analysis (CLA) This required utilizing a flexible multibody framework for the CLA and the integration of large displacements/rotations capabilities into that CLA • Gantry rotation • Disconnect and retraction of flexible hoses
Main objective for launch vehicle (LV) modal testing is to quantify the LV’s modal properties in the free-free state (i.e., post pad separation). Given the size of most LVs, free-free testing is a challenge and often not feasible. A test stand, typically the launch pad itself, is utilized as the means to support the LV an Integrated Modal Test (IMT). This shifts the challenge to developing robust numerical methods for removing the influence of the launch pad from the IMT. Preferably fully test driven (method’s that operate based on measured data only). The Accelerance Decoupling (AD) approach, developed and verified by NASA and ASD, is a method with the capability to “subtract out” the influence of the test stand from the IMT using measured data only
