Design Considerations for Aerocapture Delivery of Uranus Orbiter and Probe

This paper presents an aerocapture system design for delivering the Uranus Orbiter and Probe (UOP) subsystems to their science orbit using the Mars Science Laboratory architecture. A packaging and integration scheme are presented for UOP subsystems, with careful consideration of large components required for outer planet science missions (RTG power generation, RF communications). The implication of packaging multiple RTG’s inside an aeroshell during a multiple year cruise phase will be explained, with possible thermal design solutions to mitigate RTG waste heat analyzed. Mass properties and margins for the system are discussed and an overall mass risk assessment is presented for the entry system and total flight system at launch. Alternative vehicle configurations are explored to include multiple probes and enable science objectives during transit to Uranus. Aerocapture mass savings when compared to the baseline UOP design are presented.

Fluid delivery manifolds and microfluidic systems

Embodiments of fluid distribution manifolds, cartridges, and microfluidic systems are described herein. Fluid distribution manifolds may include an insert member and a manifold base and may define a substantially closed channel within the manifold when the insert member is press-fit into the base. Cartridges described herein may allow for simultaneous electrical and fluidic interconnection with an electrical multiplex board and may be held in place using magnetic attraction.

Expanded pore particles and delivery methods thereof

The present invention relates to a construct including a porous core, a cargo, and a spacer disposed between the core and the cargo. In some examples, the construct further includes an outer layer composed of a lipid, a polymer, or a combination thereof. Methods of making and employing such constructs are also described herein.

Scalable, large-area optical sensing platform with compact light delivery and imaging system

An optode has a planar radiation guiding medium having a first planar surface and a second planar surface and one or more perimeter surfaces bounded by the first and second planar surfaces. An excitation energy source of the optode is configured to output into the radiation guiding medium first energy at a wavelength selected to excite a fluorophore. The optode also includes a photodetector configured to image at least a portion of the first planar surface of the radiation guiding medium by detecting second energy transmitted through the radiation guiding medium.

Method and composition for targeted delivery of therapeutic agents

Functionalized single walled or multi-walled carbon nanotubes (f-CNTs) can be delivered into mammals to targeted organs, such as the kidney and the liver. These f-CNTs may be non-covalently linked or covalently linked to therapeutic agents. In particular, the application delivers carbon nanotube-therapeutic agent conjugates to a target organ, thereby preventing or reducing damages to the organ caused by other agents or procedure.

Chelating platform for delivery of radionuclides

Siderocalin-metal chelator combinations that bind metallic radioisotopes used in nuclear medicine with high affinity are described. The high affinity siderocalin-metal chelator combinations include a number of chelator backbone arrangements with functional groups that coordinate with metals. The siderocalin-metal chelator combinations can be used to deliver radionuclides for imaging and therapeutic purposes.
