Resonance Parameter Evaluation of n + 88 Sr reactions for ENDF/B-VIII.1 Library

An evaluation of n+ 88 Sr reactions up to 950 keV was compiled from a publicly available set of resonance parameters. Starting from the repository of the ENDF/B-VIII.0 library, an evaluated nuclear data file was assembled and submitted for inclusion to the Evaluated Nuclear Data File (ENDF)/B-VIII.1 release. This evaluation features an external function representation defined by pole strengths and R ∞ parameters over the entire resolved resonance range. This work improves the modeling of the R-matrix parameterization from multi-Level Breit-Wigner resonance parameters to Reich-Moore formalism, and it also extends thrice the upper energy range of the current ENDF/B-VIII.0 resolved resonance evaluation.

Influence of Heterointerfaces on the Kinetics of Oxygen Surface Exchange on Epitaxial La 1.85 Sr 0.15 CuO 4 Thin Films

Considerable attention has been directed to understanding the influence of heterointerfaces between Ruddlesden–Popper (RP) phases and ABO 3 perovskites on the kinetics of oxygen electrocatalysis at elevated temperatures. Here, we report the effect of heterointerfaces on the oxygen surface exchange kinetics by employing heteroepitaxial oxide thin films formed by decorating LaNiO 3 (LNO) on La 1.85 Sr 0.15 CuO 4 (LSCO) thin films. Regardless of LNO decoration, tensile in-plane strain on LSCO films does not change. The oxygen surface exchange coefficients (kchem) of LSCO films extracted from electrical conductivity relaxation curves significantly increase with partial decorations of LNO, whereas full LNO coverage leads to the reduction in the kchem of LSCO films. The activation energy for oxygen exchange in LSCO films significantly decreases with partial LNO decorations in contrast with the full coverage of LNO. Optical spectroscopy reveals the increased oxygen vacancies in the partially covered LSCO films relative to the undecorated LSCO film. We attribute the enhanced oxygen surface exchange kinetics of LSCO to the increased oxygen vacancies by creating the heterointerface between LSCO and LNO.

Optimization of La 2–x Sr x CuO 4 Single Crystal Film Growth via Molecular Beam Epitaxy

Atomic layer-by-layer molecular beam epitaxy (ALL-MBE) combined with ozone is one of the best methods to fabricate single-crystal thin films of complex oxides. Cuprate such as La 2-x Sr x CuO 4 (LSCO) is a representative complex-oxide high-temperature superconductor (HTS) material. Our group utilizes this method to produce high-quality single-crystal HTS films with atomically smooth surfaces and interfaces. In addition, ALL-MBE enables us to engineer multilayer heterostructures with atomic precision. This allows the fabrication of tunnel junctions, various nanostructures, and other HTS devices of interest for superconducting electronics. We have synthesized over three thousand LSCO thin films in the past two decades. These films’ structural and electronic properties have been studied and characterized by various methods. Here, we distill the extensive experience we accumulated into a step-by-step protocol to fabricate atomically perfect LSCO films. The recipe includes substrate preparation, ozone generation and distillation, source calibration, the in situ monitoring of the film synthesis, post-growth annealing, and ex situ characterization. It discloses a reproducible way to fabricate single-crystal LSCO films for basic research and HTS electronic applications.

Methods to Create Novel La 2- x Sr x CuO 4 Devices with Multiple Atomically Sharp Interfaces

We present methods to create devices that utilize the high-temperature superconductor La 2-x Sr x CuO 4 grown by atomic layer-by-layer molecular beam epitaxy (ALL-MBE). The ALL-MBE synthesis technique provides atomically precise interfaces necessary for the tunnel junctions, Josephson junctions, and dyon detection devices that will be considered. A series of microfabrication processing steps using established techniques are given for each device, and their details are discussed. These procedures are easily extended to generate more complex designs and could be suitable for a wider variety of materials.

Effects of Focused Ion Beam Lithography on La 2– x Sr x CuO 4 Single Crystals

Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a mask-free lithography technique that allows the precise shaping of 3D materials on the micron and sub-micron scale. The recent discovery of electronic nematicity in La 2–x Sr x CuO 4 (LSCO) thin films triggered the search for the same phenomenon in bulk LSCO crystals. With this motivation, we have systematically explored FIB patterning of bulk LSCO crystals into micro-devices suitable for longitudinal and transverse resistivity measurements. We found that several detrimental factors can affect the result, ultimately compromising the possibility of effectively using FIB milling to fabricate sub-micrometer LSCO devices, especially in the underdoped regime.

A Method of Ground-Based Cloud Motion Predict: CCLSTM + SR-Net

Ground-based cloud images can provide information on weather and cloud conditions, which play an important role in cloud cover monitoring and photovoltaic power generation forecasting. However, the cloud motion prediction of ground-based cloud images still lacks advanced and complete methods, and traditional technologies based on image processing and motion vector calculation are difficult to predict cloud morphological changes. In this paper, we propose a cloud motion prediction method based on Cascade Causal Long Short-Term Memory (CCLSTM) and Super-Resolution Network (SR-Net). Firstly, CCLSTM is used to estimate the shape and speed of cloud motion. Secondly, the Super-Resolution Network is built based on perceptual losses to reconstruct the result of CCLSTM and, finally, make it clearer. We tested our method on Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Climate Research Facility TSI (total sky imager) images. The experiments showed that the method is able to predict the sky cloud changes in the next few steps.

Search for Q ~0 Order near a Forbidden Bragg Position in Bi 2.1 Sr 1.9 CaCu 2 O 8+x with Resonant Soft X-ray Scattering

Identifying what broken symmetries are present in the cuprates has become a major area of research. Many authors have reported evidence for so-called “Q ~ 0” order that involves broken inversion, mirror, chiral, or time-reversal symmetry that is uniform in space. Not all these observations are well understood and new experimental probes are needed. Here we use resonant soft x-ray scattering (RSXS) to search for Q ~ 0 order in Bi 2.1 Sr 1.9 CaCu 2 O 8+x (Bi-2212) by measuring the region of a forbidden Bragg peak, (0,0,3), which is normally extinguished by symmetry but may become allowed on resonance if valence band order is present. Using circularly polarized light, we found that this reflection becomes allowed on the CuL 3 resonance for temperatures T c < T < T*, though remains absent in linear polarization and at other temperatures. This observation suggests the existence of spatially uniform valence band order near the pseudogap temperature. In addition, we observed periodic oscillations in the specular reflectivity from the sample surface that resemble thin film interference fringes, though no known film is present. These fringes are highly resonant, appear in all polarizations, and exhibit a period that depends on the location where the beam strikes the sample surface. We speculate that these fringes arise from interaction between some intrinsic valence band instability and extrinsic structural surface morphologies of the material. Our study supports the existence of some kind of Q ~ 0 broken symmetry state in Bi-2212 at intermediate temperatures. Further studies using a microfocused beam, which could disentangle microscopic effects from macroscopic heterogeneities, are needed to ascertain the universality of the effect.

Rb-Sr ages from the Ocean of Storms

Rb-Sr internal isochron ages from Ocean of Storms, discussing analytical results of two texturally and mineralogically distinct crystalline rocks from Apollo 12

Rb-Sr ages of igneous rocks from the Apollo 14 mission and the age of the Fra Mauro formation.

Internal Rb-Sr isochrons were determined on four basaltic rocks and on a basaltic clast from a breccia from the Fra Mauro landing site. An internal isochron was determined for rock 12004 and yielded a value in agreement with previous results for basaltic rocks from the Apollo 12 site. The crystallization ages for Apollo 14 basalts are only 0.2 to 0.3 AE older than were found for mare basalts from the Sea of Tranquility. Assuming these leucocratic igneous rocks to be representative of the Fra Mauro site, it follows that there were major igneous processes active in these regions, and presumably throughout the highlands, at times only slightly preceding the periods at which the maria were last flooded.
