Solid state device generates fixed width output pulses from variable width input pulses in the nanosecond range. The circuit produces pulse repetition rates in the megacycle range and exhibits low power drain.
Nuclear densitometer utilizing gamma radiation attenuation to measure liquid oxygen and hydrogen densities
In the magnetohydraulic metal forming system, a sonic shock wave is generated in a liquid medium by a coil energized by an electrical discharge. These waves transfer energy from a metal diaphragm, actuated by a pulsed magnetic field, to a metal workpiece. In the development a study was made of the pressure pulse phenomenon in a liquid medium.

Ultrasonic welding of covers on flatpack integrated circuits for producing hermetically sealed packages at high rates without exposure to high temperature
Flexible hose handles high rates of flow under high pressures. Short lengths of tubing are overlapped to permit flexibility with much greater parallel offset.

Video image data transmission using millimeter wave relay satellites - relay and communication subsystems
Video image data transmission using millimeter wave relay satellites - modulation techniques and frequency bands
Description of magnetic head designs, tape transport features, encoding techniques, bit error rates, and data rate capabilities of tape recorders used on board satellites for temporary storage of sensor data. Helical- and transverse-scan rotary head mechanisms used for wideband video signals from imaging systems are explained along with associated electronic circuitry. Decoding and decision procedures employed in multiple-track recorders are outlined, and deskewing electronics are discussed.
Mass-spectrometric and linear regression rate characterizations are reported, derived from CO2 laser pyrolyses of pressed NH2ClO4 (AP) at incident heat fluxes ranging from 25 to 4000 cal/sq cm sec. Product evolution-rate histories were obtained in vacuo by time-resolved (5 msec) mass spectrometry during (1) transient heat-up, and (2) subsequent quasi-steady vaporization (QSV). Vaporization induction times were obtained for (1); these, coupled with heat-transfer approximations neglecting thermochemical heat release, indicated that optical absorption at 10.6 microns dominated over conduction for heat fluxes much greater than 300. Conclusions applying in vacuo were: preferential desorption of NH3, with net accumulation of adsorbed HClO4, occurred during transient heat-up and onset of condensed phase decomposition (CPD), but preferential decomposition of adsorbed HClO4 (compared to NH3) occurred during QSV when CPD was significant. CPD was the dominant mode of QSV at moderate heat fluxes.
The HDDR-II mass data storage system consists of a Leach MTR 7114 recorder reproducer, a wire wrapped, integrated circuit flat plane and necessary power supplies for the flat plane. These units, with interconnecting cables and control panel are enclosed in a common housing mounted on casters. The electronics used in the HDDR-II double density decoding and encoding techniques are described.
The feasibility of executing major changes upward or downward from the nominal spin rate for which the Pioneer F&G spacecraft was designed was investigated along with the extent of system and subsystem modifications required to implement these mode changes in future spacecraft evolving from the baseline Pioneer F and G. Results of a previous study are re-examined and updated for an extended range of spin rate variations for missions that include outer planet orbiters, outer planet flyby and outer planet probe delivery. However, in the interest of design simplicity and cost economy, major modifications of the baseline Pioneer system and subsystem concept were avoided.
A commercially available 1728 element shallow bulk channel CCD line array was clocked at output data rates up to 30 MHz. Temporal noise was near 200 electrons and was largely independent of clock rate. Charge transfer efficiency was in excess of 0.9999 at 30 MHz. Utilization is feasible for visual simulation and aerial mapping.
A detailed description of the design approach and tradeoffs encountered during the development of the 50 MBPS decoder system is presented. A functional analysis of each of the major logical functions is given, and the system's major components are listed.
Materials studies as well as general and specific device development were carried out in the InGaAsP system. A comparison was made of three standard methods of evaluating substrate quality by means of dislocation studies. A cause of reduced yield of good wafers, the pullover of melt from one bin to the next, has been analyzed. Difficulties with reproducible zinc acceptor doping have been traced to segregation of zinc in the In/Zn alloy used for the doping source. Using EBIC measurments, the pn junction was shown to drift in location depending on factors not always under control. An analysis of contact structures by SIMS showed that the depth to which the sintered Au/Zn contact penetrates into the structure is typically 0.13 microns, or well within the cap layer and out of the p-type cladding and thus not deleterious to laser prformance. The problem of single-mode laser development was investigated and it was shown to be related to the growth habit over four different possible substrate configurations. The fabrication of constricted double heterojunctions, mesa stripe buried heterostructures, and buried heterostructures was discussed, and measurements were presented on the device properties of single-mode buried heterostructure lasers. Results include single spectral line emission at 3 mW and a threshold current of 60 mA.
