The success of rechargeable lithium ion batteries may be largely attributed to the surface films on the carbon anodes, which provide the anodes with adequate protection against continued reaction with electrolyte while permitting charge transfer.
In the search for evidence of life, Icebreaker will drill in to the Martian ice-rich regolith to collect samples, which will then be analyzed by an array of instruments designed to identify biomarkers. In addition, drilling into the subsurface will provide the opportunity to assess the vertical distribution of ice to a depth of 1 meter. The purpose of this particular project was to understand the uncertainties involved in the use of the imaging system to constrain the water ice content in regolith samples.

Fortran program using Monte Carlo method to establish probability distribution for rocket stage residual and total payload
Estimating parameters of mixed distribution consisting of two Poisson components for statistical analysis of atmospheric data
An analysis was completed for determination of the most promising hydrocarbon fuels for use with flox in upper stage rocket engines. Experimental rocket firings in uncooled, transpiration cooled, and regeneratively cooled thrust chambers were conducted using flox with methane, propane, butene-1, and a eutectic blend of pentane and isopentane. Experimental heated tube heat transfer and hypergolicity tests were conducted, and laboratory determinations of physical properties of various blends of hydrocarbon compounds were made.
