The energy system is undergoing a major transformation with the global emphasis on decarbonization. Distributed generation is projected to play a significant role in the new energy system, and energy models are informing how distributed generation can be integrated reliably and economically. In this work, we present an end-to-end computational framework for distributed energy resource (DER) modeling, REopt Lite™, which captures the interface of technology, economics, and policy in the energy modeling process. We describe the problem space, the building blocks of the model, the scaling capabilities of the design, the optimization formulation, and the extensibility of the model. We present a framework for accelerating the techno-economic analysis of behind-the-meter distributed energy resources to enable rapid planning and decision-making, thereby enabling greater renewable energy deployment. This computation framework is open-sourced to facilitate transparency, flexibility, and wider collaboration opportunities within the worldwide energy modeling community.
The existing methodologies for gathering and computing zonal statistics from the combination of a raster image and a shapefile either require advanced programming knowledge in at least one language or the use of proprietary software such as ArcGIS. The software “Choppy Lite” offers several solutions for acquiring zonal statistics that can be used without proprietary software or programming knowledge. This software provides a Docker-based ecosystem, allowing users of any experience level to simply run a single line command in a terminal prompt independent of the operating system. Intermediate to advanced users can import the class provided by the software package into their own Python scripts.
Battery Lifetime Analysis and Simulation Tool Suite (BLAST or BLAST-Py) developed in the Python programming language. BLAST-Py predicts the evolution of lithium-ion battery performance metrics over their lifetime, using models trained on lab-based accelerated aging data to predict battery performance in dynamic, real-world use. BLAST-Py contains existing models for a variety of lithium-ion battery chemistries (NMC/Gr and LFP/Gr). Battery Analysis and Training Models for Optimization and Design Studies (BATMODS) is a Python package with an API for pre-built battery models. The original purpose of the package was to quickly generate synthetic data for machine learning models to train with. However, the models are generally useful for any battery simulations or analysis. BATMODS-lite includes the following: 1) A library and API for pre-built battery models 2) Kinetic/transport properties for common battery materials
This application programing interface provides output from NREL's EVI-Pro model and is used to power the EVI-Pro Lite tool at https://afdc.energy.gov/evi-pro-lite. These endpoints provide daily (24-hour) fleet-level charging load profiles for a variety of customizable scenarios.
