Parallel IO Libraries for Managing HEP Experimental Data

The computing and storage requirements of the energy and intensity frontiers will grow significantly during the Run 4 & 5 and the HL-LHC era. Similarly, in the intensity frontier, with larger trig ger readouts during supernovae explosions, the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) will have unique computing challenges that could be addressed by the use of parallel and accelerated dataprocessing capabilities. Most of the requirements of the energy and intensity frontier experiments rely on increasing the role of high performance computing (HPC) in the HEP community. In this presentation, we will describe our ongoing efforts that are focused on using HPC resources for the next generation HEP experiments. The HEPCCE (High Energy Physics-Center for Computational Excellence) IOS (Input/Output and Storage) group has been developing approaches to map HEP data to the HDF5 , an IO library optimized for the HPC platforms to store the intermediate HEP data. The complex HEP data products are serialized using ROOT to allow for experiment independent general mapping approaches of the HEP data to the HDF5 format. The mapping approaches can be optimized for high performance parallel IO. Similarly, simpler data can be directly mapped into the HDF5, which can also be suitable for offloading into the GPUs directly. We will present our works on both complex and simple data model models.

Considerations for three-dimensional image reconstruction from experimental data in coherent diffractive imaging

The Datasets folder contains 3 datasets, corresponding to the datasets mentioned in the article with 670, 2691 and 586 images. The Runs folder has all the runs used. Besides the images itself it also contains tags for each image under `/entry_1/image_1/detector_and_photon_corrected/tags`. The `headings` attribute gives the name of each tag. The `Jonas Strict` tag corresponds to the 670 images, the `Redflamingo` tag to the 2691 images and the `Redflamingo_Ida_subset` tag to the 586 images. The final dataset with 260 images can be obtained from `Datasets/amoc6914-Redflamingo-manual-586.h5` and use the `/model/diameterNM` group to select the 260 images with size closest to 214 nm.

Comparing optical four-flux model results with experimental data obtained by integrating sphere measurements

Four-flux theory is a way to model scattering through multiple layers of a system based on diffuse and collimated properties. When compared with measurement results obtained using an integrating sphere or a goniophotometer, an approximation is often made as the physical instrument cannot separate the collimated component from the diffuse light scattered in the forward direction. This paper tries to clarify the meaning of the word diffuse for the different cases and outlines simple corrections to improve the accuracy when comparing four-flux models and measured data based on sample haze and the geometry of the integrating sphere.

Foam Fracturing Fluid Half-life Experimental Data

Foam thermal stability was studies at Temple University in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL). The goal of this project is to explore thermally stable foams as hydrofracking fluid media for potential applications in enhanced geothermal system (EGS). Data generated from this project will allow researchers to explore foam as potential fracturing fluid. More than 800 data points on the half-life of foams are recorded in Excel files in the included archive resource (Half-life of Foams with Different Surfactants and Stabilizing Agents). The Excel file within each surfactant folder contains half-life data of the respective surfactant with different stabilizing agents, pressure, and temperature. The respective folders also contains Word files describing the details of the data included in the respective Excel sheet.
