Topological variations in power system is a common phenomenon and can impose significant challenges to traditional controllers of power system. Recent study revealed the strength of deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based approaches in power system preventive and corrective control. But topological variations are difficult to capture using classical fully connected neural network (FCN) model and has not been explicitly modeled in previous work. Hence, we develop a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) based DRL framework to tackle topology changes in control design of power system. The GCN model exploits the graph structure of the power network and helps the DRL agent to embed the topology information during learning process. Our GCN based approach is evaluated using the IEEE-39 bus system and it outperforms the FCN-based DRL scheme in terms of training convergence and control performance considering grid topology changes.

The primary objective of this project is to determine the incremental value created with the medium voltage solid-state transformer (MV SST) technology to different stakeholders in view of the updated DER grid regulations. This includes studying the benefits of the MV SST technology in a range of use cases for EV and DER penetration including (1) “corridor charging” for EVs and (2) solar plus storage (FERC 2222). The potential customers of this technology include utilities for EV charging, DER installers who must meet utility interconnection requirements, balancing authorities, and DER aggregators. The traditional transformers on the grid could be a limiting factor for the EV-grid integration as the distribution transformers were not designed to handle the dynamic and fluctuating EV charging loads. Thus, the issues such as voltage fluctuations, increased losses and reduced efficiency [1] can negatively impact the grid operation. To address these challenges, transformers with flexibility and adaptability become imperative to meet the evolving energy demands. In this regard, the concept of Medium Voltage Solid-State Transformers.

A mathematical model employing Fourier series is used to show quantization and reaction wheel friction nonlinearity in a telescope system for use in space. Block diagrams are used to illustrate the system. A discrete describing function of a quantizer also is given, and input and output signal waveforms, with illustrative examples, are shown.
A set of results on rotorcraft system identification is described. Flight measurements collected on an experimental Puma helicopter are reviewed and some notable characteristics highlighted. Following a brief review of previous work in rotorcraft system identification, the results of state estimation and model structure estimation processes applied to the Puma data are presented. The results, which were obtained using NASA developed software, are compared with theoretical predictions of roll, yaw and pitching moment derivatives for a 6 degree of freedom model structure. Anomalies are reported. The theoretical methods used are described. A framework for reduced order modelling is outlined.
The effect of perspective displays on flight performance is investigated using two simulation experiments. In the first, a perspective grid display was superimposed on computer-generated terrain and subjects attempted to maintain their initial attitude in a simulated hover using terrain and/or one of four grid patterns. Horizontal lines produced the best attitude control performance. In the second experiment, a square grid was studied in combination with various visual display configurations and grid attachment conditions. It was found that performance with the panel-mounted display was significantly worse than with the out-the-window or helmet-mounted displays. The results suggested that the partial grid attachment condition improved hovering performance with the panel-mounted display.
The present paper is concerned with the problem of heat waves in solids, where, the heat transport due to conduction occurs as propagating thermal disturbances which are transmitted at finite but high speeds. Starting from the general heat flux model of the Jeffrey's-type, and subsequent formulations leading to the Cattaneo-type heat flux model, an evaluation of the heat transport behavior is described for models influenced by non-Fourier effects and subjected to general nonlinear/linear boundary conditions. An explicit time-integration architecture is employed which effectively provides not only accurate representations of the relaxation effects and general boundary conditions but also seeks to provide an understanding of the representative thermal behavior and heat transport mechanisms for a variety of physical situations.
