Solid state thermostat has integral probe and circuitry

Compact, reliable thermostat provides a temperature readout signal and a continuous temperature-control output for temperature monitoring by automatic checkout equipment or telemetry systems. It employs a solid state circuit in a housing rigidly attached to a thermistor probe.

Electronic circuitry used to automate paper chromatography

Electronic circuit is used in a paper chromatograph instrument that has excellent sensitivity and furnishes a printed record of each test. The circuit measures and records changes in conductivity in a strip of chromatographic paper as different solutions are placed on it.

Steffensen, G. R.

Locating ''sneak paths'' in electrical circuitry

Use of a matrix system wherein circuit pin connections are assigned arbitrary designators and these used in formation of the matrix is illustrated. The matrix is a format that shows the current paths.

Dannback, T. M.

Miniaturization of magnetic logic circuitry

Magnetic logic circuit design features two ferrite materials, with different formulation and magnetic characteristics, which are bonded into a continuous structure by preparing the materials as a slurry and using the doctor blade method to form flexible ferrite sheets. After firing, the sintering process was continuous across the bond.

Baba, P. D.

Magnetic circuitry mutual coupling probe

Development of magnetic probe for nondestructive testing of multilayer printed circuit boards to determine existence of opens or shorts is reported. Components of probe are described and procedures for operation are discussed. Two illustrations are provided to show magnetic circuits and principles of operation.

Development of a highly reliable composite board for printed circuitry for use in space environment

Materials, processes and fabrication techniques have been investigated for the development of a high-temperature circuit-board laminate. High quality, void-free copper-clad laminates have been made using 7628/HS-1 style fiberglas reinforcements with filled polyimide matrices. The fabricating characteristics of P13N resin appear suitable for use as a filled matrix in this circuit board development. High-fired, ball-milled alumina appears to be necessary to obtain the desired effects in the circuit board system. Nickel-clad copper foil bonding surfaces appear to be another requirement for retention of good bond strengths after art work and plating sequences. The fabrication cycle for this circuit board system is very dependent on the heating profile. Very rapid heating with quick loading is recommended. A stack approach to lamination was successfully used.

Toroidal transformer design program with application to inverter circuitry

Estimates of temperature, weight, efficiency, regulation, and final dimensions are included in the output of the computer program for the design of transformers for use in the basic parallel inverter. The program, written in FORTRAN 4, selects a tape wound toroidal magnetic core and, taking temperature, materials, core geometry, skin depth, and ohmic losses into account, chooses the appropriate wire sizes and number of turns for the center tapped primary and single secondary coils. Using the program, 2- and 4-kilovolt-ampere transformers are designed for frequencies from 200 to 3200 Hz and the efficiency of a basic transistor inverter is estimated.

Dayton, J. A., Jr.

Command detector SNR estimator and lock status monitor circuitry

A breadboard of the command detector signal-to-noise-ratio estimator and lock status monitor was built on a wire-wrap card. The breadboard was integrated with the standard command detector, and its performance was measured. The design, design constraints, and construction of the breadboard are described. The performance is shown to agree with the theoretical model.

Arc discharge supply component protection circuitry

In a mercury-bombardment ion engine, the discharge supply is a high-current low-voltage one that maintains an arc or discharge inside the engine. In a 30-cm engine the supply provides up to 45 volts at about 13 amperes and is referenced at approximately 1100 volts above ground. Due to the engine discharge characteristics, a very slow feedback control loop is required. A high-speed current limit must be used to protect the components in the power conditioner, a pulse-width-modulated bridge inverter. A high-speed cycle-by-cycle current-limit circuit which allows the inverter to continue running in an overcurrent condition is used to protect it. The high-speed current sensing allows the inverter to be turned off each half cycle before the current in the primary of the inverter exceeds a safe level. This permits the inverter to continue to provide current into a discharge or a fault condition, until the feedback control system can actively control the current.
