Gas flowmeter

Mass flowmeter measures rates of flow of all common gases from purges and collected leaks at leak ports. Without dependence on gravity, it measures rates between 5 and 650 cc/min with pressures ranging from 0.001 to 10 to the minus thirteenth torr at temperatures between 70 and 500 degrees K.

Low noise electromagnetic flowmeter

Parasitic hum is removed by using an isophase magnetic field created within flowmeter and an enclosure which prevents leakage of flux field. Method prevents contamination of flow conduit and eliminates zero point drift.

Small turbing-type flowmeters for liquid hydrogen

Characteristics of turbine-type flowmeters in two sizes and with various types of bearings are presented. Calibration procedures of instruments are described. Accuracies obtainable under various conditions are analyzed.

Life tests of small turbine-type flowmeters in liquid hydrogen

A total of 14 turbine-type flowmeters of 2.5- and 4-cm nominal size were operated for 100 or more hours at an average fluid speed in the unobstructed, upstream pipe of 20 m/s for the smaller meters and 9 m/s for the larger meters. Calibration shifts over a 6.1 range of calibration flow rates varied from 0.5 percent to 1 percent after 50 hr of operation. It is concluded that use of ball bearings with glass-filled Teflon retainers is most likely to produce minimal calibration shift with protracted use. Bearing replacement after 50 to 100 hr is recommended, depending on accuracy requirements, for meters used at the fluid speeds of the tests.

Low power electromagnetic flowmeter providing accurate zero set

A low power, small size electromagnetic flowmeter system is described which produces a zero output signal for zero flow. The system comprises an air core type electromagnetic flow transducer, a field current supply circuit for the transducer coils and a pre-amplifier and demodulation circuit connected to the output of the transducer. To prevent spurious signals at zero flow, separate, isolated power supplies are provided for the two circuits. The demodulator includes a pair of synchronous rectifiers which are controlled by signals from the field current supply circuit. Pulse transformer connected in front of the synchronous rectifiers provide isolation between the two circuits.

Analysis of the feedback system in a nonintrusive dynamic flowmeter for measuring Pogo oscillations

Equations were developed which describe the closed loop feedback system operation of a proposed ultrasonic, dynamic, nonintrusive flowmeter whose design is based on a constant phase, voltage controlled frequency feedback concept. These equations are based on linear feedback system theory. The time constant of a low pass filter is taken into account. The equations show that the larger the open loop gain, the smaller the error due to fluctuations in the speed of sound and the smaller the effective time constant.

Automated secondary standard for liquid flowmeters

Calibration time is reduced from one hour to fifteen minutes. Accuracies of flowmeter calibrations are approximately 99.75 percent, using this standard. Standard is also used to test or set flow switches.

An automated secondary standard for calibrating liquid flowmeters

A secondary working standard of flow calibration has been developed to be used in place of a primary weight-time standard, and which can thereby effect a 75 percent reduction in calibration time while maintaining acceptable accuracies. The secondary standard uses six previously calibrated turbine-type flowmeters built into two manifold systems containing automatically switched flow valves. The pair of systems is capable of covering the flow range of 0.0004 to 19 l/s (0.007 to 300 gpm) with the uncertainty in volume flow rate not exceeding + or - 0.25 percent over the range of 0.06 to 19 l/s and not exceeding + or - 0.5 percent over the range 0.0004 to 0.06 1/s. Data reduction and plotting of results are by computer.
