Performance of unbalanced QPSK in the presence of noisy reference and crosstalk

The problem of transmitting two telemetry data streams having different rates and different powers using unbalanced quadriphase shift keying (UQPSK) signaling is considered. It is noted that the presence of a noisy carrier phase reference causes a degradation in detection performance in coherent communications systems and that imperfect carrier synchronization not only attenuates the main demodulated signal voltage in UQPSK but also produces interchannel interference (crosstalk) which degrades the performance still further. Exact analytical expressions for symbol error probability of UQPSK in the presence of noise phase reference are derived.

Instrument-induced spatial crosstalk deconvolution algorithm

An algorithm has been developed which reduces the effects of (deconvolves) instrument-induced spatial crosstalk in satellite image data by several orders of magnitude where highly precise radiometry is required. The algorithm is based upon radiance transfer ratios which are defined as the fractional bilateral exchange of energy betwen pixels A and B.

Low-Crosstalk Composite Optical Crosspoint Switches

Composite optical switch includes two elementary optical switches in tandem, plus optical absorbers. Like elementary optical switches, composite optical switches assembled into switch matrix. Performance enhanced by increasing number of elementary switches. Advantage of concept: crosstalk reduced to acceptably low level at moderate cost of doubling number of elementary switches rather than at greater cost of tightening manufacturing tolerances and exerting more-precise control over operating conditions.

Comparison of Analysis, Simulation, and Measurement of Wire-to-Wire Crosstalk

In this investigation, we compare crosstalk analysis, simulation, and measurement results for electrically short configurations. Methods include hand calculations, PSPICE simulations, Microstripes transient field solver, and empirical measurement. In total, four representative physical configurations are examined, including a single wire over a ground plane, a twisted pair over a ground plane, generator plus receptor wires inside a cylindrical conduit, and a single receptor wire inside a cylindrical conduit. Part 1 addresses the first two cases, and Part 2 addresses the final two. Agreement between the analysis, simulation, and test data is shown to be very good.

Mapping Electrical Crosstalk in Pixelated Sensor Arrays

Electronic coupling effects such as Inter-Pixel Capacitance (IPC) affect the quantitative interpretation of image data from CMOS, hybrid visible and infrared imagers alike. Existing methods of characterizing IPC do not provide a map of the spatial variation of IPC over all pixels. We demonstrate a deterministic method that provides a direct quantitative map of the crosstalk across an imager. The approach requires only the ability to reset single pixels to an arbitrary voltage, different from the rest of the imager. No illumination source is required. Mapping IPC independently for each pixel is also made practical by the greater S/N ratio achievable for an electrical stimulus than for an optical stimulus, which is subject to both Poisson statistics and diffusion effects of photo-generated charge. The data we present illustrates a more complex picture of IPC in Teledyne HgCdTe and HyViSi focal plane arrays than is presently understood, including the presence of a newly discovered, long range IPC in the HyViSi FPA that extends tens of pixels in distance, likely stemming from extended field effects in the fully depleted substrate. The sensitivity of the measurement approach has been shown to be good enough to distinguish spatial structure in IPC of the order of 0.1%.

Dynamical Decoupling of Crosstalk on Superconducting Qubit Devices

Current NISQ devices are prone to errors. In order to be used for practical applications or achieve fault-tolerant thresholds, strategies to suppress error rates will be needed to maximize the potential of noisy devices. Dynamical decoupling (DD) is one such strategy for suppressing — or at least alleviating — the effects of decoherence, in which sequences of pulses are applied to qubits to decouple their interaction with the environment. Through experimental runs performed on several Rigetti quantum computing units (QPUs), we first demonstrate that DD is capable of improving coherence times for isolated qubits, as well as suppressing errors caused by the ZZ coupling between pairs of qubits. Extending this framework to cycles containing2-qubit gates, we show that DD can be inserted to decouple qubits from crosstalk occurring during neighboring 2-qubit gates, and demonstrate the efficacy of this procedure on quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) circuits. We also explore the usage of tailored DD sequences for the suppression of characterized error channels. Crosstalk between cyclophilins and T lymphocytes in coronary artery disease

Highlights: • CD147 receptor expression is elevated in T lymphocytes from CAD patients. • Intracellular CypA and B expression are augmented in T lymphocytes from CAD patients. • CypA, B and C, and IL-1β and IL-6 serum levels are increased in patients with CAD. • CypA and B levels in T lymphocytes are correlated with CypA and B serum levels, respectively. Cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerosis are currently some of the most widespread diseases of our time. Within cardiovascular disease, coronary artery disease and underlying atherosclerosis were recently linked with systemic and local inflammation. Cyclophilins participate in the initiation and progression of these inflammatory-related diseases. Cyclophilins are released into the extracellular space upon inflammatory stimuli and participate in the pathology of cardiovascular diseases. The cell surface receptor for extracellular cyclophilins, the CD147 receptor, also contributes to coronary artery disease pathogenesis. Nevertheless, the physiological relevance of cyclophilin's family and their receptor in cardiovascular diseases remains unclear. The present study aimed to better understand the role of cyclophilins in cardiovascular artery disease and their relationship with inflammation. Hence, cyclophilins and pro-inflammatory interleukins were measured in the serum of 30 subjects (divided into three groups according to coronary artery disease status: 10 patients with acute coronary syndrome, 10 patients with chronic coronary artery disease, and 10 control volunteers). In addition, cyclophilin levels and CD147 receptor expression were measured in T lymphocytes purified from these subjects. Cyclophilin A, B, and C, pro-inflammatory interleukins, and CD147 membrane expression were significantly elevated in patients with coronary artery disease.

Syncopated dynamical decoupling to suppress crosstalk in quantum circuits

Theoretically understanding and experimentally characterizing and modifying the underlying Hamiltonian of a quantum system is of utmost importance in achieving high-fidelity quantum gates for quantum computing. Here, in this work, we explore the use of dynamical decoupling (DD) in characterizing and suppressing undesired two-qubit couplings as well as the underlying single-qubit decoherence, both significant hurdles to achieving precise quantum control and realizing quantum computing on many hardware prototypes. Through discrete search of DD sequences, we identify sequences that protect against decoherence and selectively target unwanted two-qubit interactions of general form. On a transmon-qubit-based superconducting quantum device, we identify separate white and 1/𝑓 noise components underlying the single-qubit decoherence and a static ZZ coupling between pairs of qubits. A family of syncopated DD sequences is found and their efficiency is demonstrated in two-qubit benchmarking experiments. The syncopated decoupling technique significantly boosts performance in a realistic algorithmic quantum circuit.

Diversity of genomic adaptations to the post‐fire environment in Pezizales fungi points to crosstalk between charcoal tolerance and sexual development

Summary Wildfires drastically impact the soil environment, altering the soil organic matter, forming pyrolyzed compounds, and markedly reducing the diversity of microorganisms. Pyrophilous fungi, especially the species from the orders Pezizales and Agaricales, are fire‐responsive fungal colonizers of post‐fire soil that have historically been found fruiting on burned soil and thus may encode mechanisms of processing these compounds in their genomes. Pyrophilous fungi are diverse. In this work, we explored this diversity and sequenced six new genomes of pyrophilous Pezizales fungi isolated after the 2013 Rim Fire near Yosemite Park in California, USA: Pyronema domesticum , Pyronema omphalodes , Tricharina praecox , Geopyxis carbonaria , Morchella snyderi , and Peziza echinospora . A comparative genomics analysis revealed the enrichment of gene families involved in responses to stress and the degradation of pyrolyzed organic matter. In addition, we found that both protein sequence lengths and G + C content in the third base of codons (GC3) in pyrophilous fungi fall between those in mesophilic/nonpyrophilous and thermophilic fungi. A comparative transcriptome analysis of P. domesticum under two conditions – growing on charcoal, and during sexual development – identified modules of genes that are co‐expressed in the charcoal and light‐induced sexual development conditions. In addition, environmental sensors such as transcription factors STE12, LreA, LreB, VosA, and EsdC were upregulated in the charcoal condition. Taken together, these results highlight genomic adaptations of pyrophilous fungi and indicate a potential connection between charcoal tolerance and fruiting body formation in P. domesticum .

Extreme Fast Charging: Effect of Positive Electrode Material on Crosstalk

Extreme fast charging (XFC) is a key requirement for the adoption of battery-based electric vehicles by the transportation sector. However, XFC has been shown to accelerate degradation, causing the capacity, life, and safety of batteries to deteriorate. We tested cells containing five positive electrode chemistries, LFP (olivine structure), LMO (spinel), LCO (layered), NMC811 (layered) and NCA (layered), using fast-charging protocols. After testing, the negative electrodes from cells containing positive electrodes crystallizing with a layered structure were found to have more lithium deposited on their surfaces. Further, those crystallizing with a layered structure also tended to have a larger increase in impedance than those crystallizing with a spinel or olivine structure. Characterization of the negative electrodes by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that using the concentrations of LiF and Li x PO y F z as metrics, the concentration of LiF in the SEI from the cell with different positive electrodes is LFP > LMO > LCO ~ NMC811 > NCA; and for Li x PO y F z , the order is LMO > LFP > NCA > NMC811 > LCO. Clearly, the positive-electrode material was influencing the amounts of these materials formed.
