The requirement of science, to stretch the boundaries and our understanding of the standard model,is the driving force for the continuous development of our knowledge of the building blocks of theUniverse. Experiments are designed, built and tested to support the theories of the mathematiciansof the physics community and the theorists help interpret the experimental results, looking foravenues of new physics. However, as is known in both science and human nature, nothing is everperfect - there is always room for improvement. The E989 Muon g-2 Collaboration experiment at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (otherwiseknown as Fermilab), aims to quantify the muon anomalous magnetic moment to unprecedentedprecision and looks to increase the accuracy of the measurement by fourfold of the predecessorexperiment - E821 at Brookhaven. The discrepancy between the theoretical prediction of theanomalous magnetic moment of the muon and the experimental results, has given tantalisingindication of new physics, prompting an ”upgrade” for systematic accuracy on the E821.The particular focus of this thesis details the design, construction and quality testing of the strawtracking modules for the E989 experiment. The author was one of the dedicated technicians whobuilt and tested the tracker modules at the University of Liverpool High Energy Physics (HEP)department, she built and quality tested the modules, wrote the procedural document for the buildand subsequently was involved in the Run I startup, shut down and data taking shifts (for Run Iand Run II) which contributed to the recent release of the first unblinded data.
Abstract We present results based on data of a dense nodal array composed of 147 stations, deployed in 2022 near the epicenter of the 2019 Mw 7.1 Ridgecrest earthquake to investigate characteristics of the seismic wavefields. Through array analyses, we identified two primary components. First, we observed far-field P waves dominating the 0.5–1.2 Hz frequency range, which are likely primarily generated by wind-driven oceanic swell activity. Second, we detected near-field body waves resulting from anthropogenic activities in the frequency range 2–8 Hz. We examined noise correlation functions derived from data of the dense deployment and regional stations to explore fault-zone seismic velocity changes using ballistic arrivals, with a focus on velocity perturbation shortly before and after the Ridgecrest earthquake sequence. Our findings exhibit distinct behavior compared to results obtained through standard coda-wave interferometry. Particularly, we observed a decrease in P-wave travel time on certain station pairs prior to the 2019 earthquake sequence. Supported by detailed investigation of the local seismic wavefields, we interpret the decreasing P-wave travel time as likely caused by a velocity increase away from the fault, possibly related to fluid migration. However, additional information is necessary to verify this hypothesis.

PIP-II cryomodules use a computer vision system (H-BCAMs system) to monitor the alignment of SRF cavities and focusing lenses during assembly, testing, and operation. This contribution details the integration of the H-BCAMs into the Spoke Test Cryostat (STC) at Fermilab, which is utilized for cold testing SRF cavities prior to their integration into the string assembly. Thermal and structural finite element analyses were employed to estimate the cavities’ deformations, to be validated during cold testing in the STC using H-BCAMs. Notably, this marks the first instance of H-BCAMs integration into a cryostat and operation within a cryogenic environment.
During the project Agira was pursued: (a) R&D efforts leading to the development of an innovative and revolutionary future-generation waveguide concentrating solar collector that will have improved value or productivity when compared to best-in-class, near-commercial concentrating solar power (CSP) solar collector technologies; (b) demonstrate results supporting that the proposed innovation meets or goes beyond the 6 cents per kWh levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) goals set forth by the SunShot Initiative (c) pursue clear market- and application-driven objectives and partnerships as part of a credible pathway to commercial development and eventual deployment. The novel optical approach consisted of a primary light bending optics converting normal incidence light to shallow angles which is then input onto a shallow secondary reflector which redirects and concenrates the light onto the evacuated solar tube.
This manual has been written to provide a general reference of the usage of WCATS. Because WCATS is designed to be used at many different kinds of facilities, much of the usage of the application is driven by the metadata configuration of the system. General usage of the system and the different types of tasks provided is included in this document, but custom usage and an exhaustive list of configuration options will not be provided. This manual is not intended to be a replacement for detailed work procedures or desk instructions, and it will not include configuration details such as service unit names, waste stream numbers for selection, etc. Any use of such information in this document is only provided as an example.
A modeling approach for binary collision and particle breakup is presented for a stochastic particle model in which a computational parcel represents a number of similar physical particles. Presented in this report includes sampling from a distribution of discrete data, parcel number reduction, probabilistic calculation of collision rates, and various particle-particle interactions. Modeling of elastic scattering, coalescence and agglomeration, and breakup are discussed for solid-solid, solid-liquid, and liquid-liquid particle collisions. Numerical procedures are also summarized.

Develop technologies that reduce the delay between changing hydropower operations and the acquisition of knowledge regarding fish behavior and survival and to reduce the cost and effort to obtain behavioral information of fish that is both accurate and detailed. The technologies being proposed would allow hydropower operators to quickly understand the impact of operational changes on fish and allow fisheries researchers to study fish behavior in high resolution at locations that previously would have been unfeasible.

This report examines the household-level energy impacts of residential property assessed clean energy (R-PACE) projects using normalized metered energy consumption methods. Our analysis covers projects that occurred through an R-PACE program between 2009 and 2017 and includes more than 25,000 electricity meters and 15,000 gas meters. We employ a comparison group, drawn from other R-PACE households with similar locational and usage characteristics whose projects were implemented at different times, to control for some non-project and non-weather factors that may impact energy use. We find that projects consisting of energy efficiency technologies save, on average, about 3% of household electricity usage and 3.5% of household gas usage. R-PACE financing, however, can be used to install central heating or air conditioning equipment for the first time. These projects would be expected to increase energy consumption. Since our data do not directly indicate which projects are new installations, we develop a simple algorithm for identifying them. Removing these inferred installation projects yields average savings of about 5% for electricity and 6% for gas for those households that remain in the sample. Given the mild California climate and the results of another study of similar California projects using similar methods, these results are in line with expectations. Solar PV projects yield large reductions in grid electricity use, averaging 69% of household consumption. We estimate that, collectively, all R-PACE projects installed in California through 2019 would generate annual reductions in grid-tied electricity consumption of 506 GWh (mostly due to solar PV) and gas consumption reductions of 2 million therms in a normal weather year. These impacts are equivalent to the electricity consumption of about 74,000 California households (including both efficiency and PV generation) and the gas consumption of about 4700 California households.
