Enabling complete multichannel nonadiabatic dynamics: A global representation of the two-channel coupled, 1,2 1 A and 1 3 A states of NH 3 using neural networks

Global coupled three-state two-channel potential energy and property/interaction (dipole and spin–orbit coupling) surfaces for the dissociation of NH 3 (Ã) into NH + H 2 and NH 2 + H are reported. The permutational invariant polynomial-neural network approach is used to simultaneously fit and diabatize the electronic Hamiltonian by fitting the energies, energy gradients, and derivative couplings of the two coupled lowest-lying singlet states as well as fitting the energy and energy gradients of the lowest-lying triplet state. The key issue in fitting property matrix elements in the diabatic basis is that the diabatic surfaces must be smooth, that is, the diabatization must remove spikes in the original adiabatic property surfaces attributable to the switch of electronic wavefunctions at the conical intersection seam. Here, we employ the fit potential energy matrix to transform properties in the adiabatic representation to a quasi-diabatic representation and remove the discontinuity near the conical intersection seam. The property matrix elements can then be fit with smooth neural network functions. The coupled potential energy surfaces along with the dipole and spin–orbit coupling surfaces will enable more accurate and complete treatment of optical transitions, as well as nonadiabatic internal conversion and intersystem crossing.

Magnon-magnon coupling in an all-oxide insulator garnet Y 3 ⁢Fe 5 ⁢O 12 /Tm 3 ⁢Fe 5⁢ O 12 heterostructure

Hybrid magnonic systems have recently attracted significant attention due to their intriguing physics and potential applications in coherent information processing. In this regard, we have investigated magnon-magnon coupling in the all-oxide insulator garnet Y 3⁢ Fe 5⁢ O 12 (YIG)/Tm 3 ⁢Fe 5 ⁢O 12 (TmIG) heterostructure. The presence of an avoided mode crossing region between the ferromagnetic resonance modes of YIG and TmIG indicates interfacial exchange coupling. This all-insulator system enables interfacial coupling via magnon-magnon interactions. The mode crossing occurs at 𝑓 𝑐 = 6.88 GHz, corresponding to the minimal resonance separation between the two hybrid modes. The coupling strength is determined to be 78 MHz (or 2.8 mT), providing clear evidence of magnon-magnon coupling between the two Kittel modes in the YIG/TmIG insulator system at 200 K. As a result, these findings pave the way for engineering magnonic band structures, tunable coherent magnonic interactions, and nonreciprocal spin transport, which are crucial for advancing ultralow-power magnonic devices.

Charge Ordering and Low-Temperature Lattice Distortion in the {beta}'-(BDT-TTF){sub 2}CF{sub 3}CF{sub 2}SO{sub 3} Dime Mott Insulator.

We present single-crystal x-ray diffraction measurements, optical investigations, and electronic structure calculations for the organic charge-transfer salt beta'-(BEDT-TTF)(2)CF3CF2SO3 synthesized by electrocrystallization. Electronic structure calculations confirm the quasi-one-dimensional behavior of the compound and optical conductivity measurements reveal the dimer-Mott insulating nature of the system. The splitting of the charge-sensitive nu(2) mode in Raman spectra demonstrates the onset of an interlayer charge-ordered phase below 25 K, also suggested by the crystal structure considerations. This transition is accompanied by clear signatures of a lattice distortion in the BEDT-TTF donor layer, as shown by a splitting of the vibrational nu(3) mode in infrared spectra. At the same time, the sharp redshift of the nu(1) mode involving the BEDT-TTF ethylene groups strongly suggests a significant modification of the hydrogen-type bonding present between the BEDT-TTF donor layer and the CF3CF2SO3- anion layer. These observations point to a subtle interplay of charge and lattice degrees of freedom at the phase transition.

Electronic structure of Co 3 d states in the Kitaev material candidate honeycomb cobaltate Na 3 Co 2 SbO 6 probed with x-ray dichroism

The recent prediction that honeycomb lattices of Co 2+ (3d 7 ) ions could host dominant Kitaev interactions provides an exciting direction for exploration of new routes to stabilizing Kitaev’s quantum spin liquid in real materials. Na 3 Co 2 SbO 6 has been singled out as a potential material candidate provided that spin and orbital moments couple into a J eff = $\frac{1}{2}$ ground state, and that the relative strength of trigonal crystal field and spin-orbit coupling acting on Co ions can be tailored. Using x-ray linear dichroism (XLD) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) experiments, alongside configuration interaction calculations, we confirm the counterintuitive positive sign of the trigonal crystal field acting on Co 2+ ions and test the validity of the J eff = $\frac{1}{2}$ description of the electronic ground state. Furthermore, the results lend experimental support to recent theoretical predictions that a compression (elongation) of CoO 6 octahedra along (perpendicular to) the trigonal axis would drive this cobaltate toward the Kitaev limit, assuming the J eff = $\frac{1}{2}$ character of the electronic ground state is preserved.

X 17 boson and the H 3 ( p , e + e – ) He 4 and He 3 ( n , e + e – ) He 4 processes: A theoretical analysis

The present work deals with e + – e – pair production in the four-nucleon system. We first analyze the process as a purely electromagnetic one in the context of a state-of-the-art approach to nuclear strong-interaction dynamics and nuclear electromagnetic currents, derived from chiral effective field theory ( χ EFT ) . Next, we examine how the exchange of a hypothetical low-mass boson would impact the cross section for such a process. We consider several possibilities, that this boson is either a scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, or axial particle. The ab initio calculations use exact hyperspherical-harmonics methods to describe the bound state and low-energy spectrum of the A = 4 continuum, and they fully account for initial state interaction effects in the 3 + 1 clusters. While electromagnetic interactions are treated to high orders in the chiral expansion, the interactions of the hypothetical boson with nucleons are modeled in leading-order χ EFT (albeit, in some instances, selected subleading contributions are also accounted for). We also provide an overview of possible future experiments probing pair production in the A = 4 system at a number of candidate facilities.

Magnetic correlations and pairing tendencies of the hybrid stacking nickelate superlattice La 7 Ni 5 O 17 (La 3 ⁢Ni 2 ⁢O 7 /La 4 Ni 3 ⁢O 10 ) under pressure

Motivated by the recent rapid progress in high-𝑇 𝑐 nickelate superconductors, we comprehensively study the physical properties of the alternating bilayer trilayer stacking nickelate La 7 ⁢Ni 5 ⁢O 17 . The high-symmetry phase of this material, without the tilting of oxygen octahedra, is not stable at ambient conditions but becomes stable under high pressure, where a small hole pocket 𝛾 0 , composed of the 𝑑 3⁢𝑧 2 −𝑟 2 states in the trilayer sublattice, appears. Here, this pocket was identified in our previous work for trilayer La 4 ⁢Ni 3 ⁢O 10 as important to develop superconductivity. Moreover, using random-phase approximation calculations, we find a leading 𝑠 ± pairing state for the high-symmetry phase under pressure with similar pairing strength as that obtained previously for the bilayer La 3⁢ Ni 2 ⁢O 7 compound, suggesting a similar or higher superconducting transition temperature 𝑇 𝑐 , at the random-phase approximation level. In addition, we find that the dominant magnetic fluctuations in the system driving this pairing state have antiferromagnetic structure both in-plane and between the planes of the top and bottom trilayer and bilayer sublattices, while the middle trilayer is magnetically decoupled.

Vibrational control of the reaction pathway in the H + CHD 3 → H 2 + CD 3 reaction

An accurate full-dimensional quantum state-to-state simulation of the six-atom title reaction based on first-principles theory is reported. Counterintuitive effects are found: Increasing the energy in the reactant’s CD 3 umbrella vibration reduces the energy in the corresponding product vibration. An in-depth analysis reveals the crucial role of the effective dynamical transition state: Its geometry is controlled by the vibrational states of the reactants and subsequently controls the quantum state distribution of the products. This finding enables generalizing the concept of transition state control of chemical reactions to the quantum state–specific level.

Diverse high-pressure chemistry in Y-NH 3 BH 3 and Y–paraffin oil systems

The yttrium-hydrogen system has gained attention because of near-ambient temperature superconductivity reports in yttrium hydrides at high pressures. We conducted a study using synchrotron single-crystal x-ray diffraction (SCXRD) at 87 to 171 GPa, resulting in the discovery of known (two YH3 phases) and five previously unknown yttrium hydrides. These were synthesized in diamond anvil cells by laser heating yttrium with hydrogen-rich precursors—ammonia borane or paraffin oil. The arrangements of yttrium atoms in the crystal structures of new phases were determined on the basis of SCXRD, and the hydrogen content estimations based on empirical relations and ab initio calculations revealed the following compounds: Y 3 H 11 , Y 2 H 9 , Y 4 H 23 , Y 13 H 75 , and Y 4 H 25 . The study also uncovered a carbide (YC 2 ) and two yttrium allotropes. Complex phase diversity, variable hydrogen content in yttrium hydrides, and their metallic nature, as revealed by ab initio calculations, underline the challenges in identifying superconducting phases and understanding electronic transitions in high-pressure synthesized materials.

Surface Impedance of Nb$_3$Sn and YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-\sigma}$ in High Magnetic Fields

New potential rf applications of superconductors emerged with the need to operate in high dc magnetic fields (up to 16 T) where vortex motion dictates the response: the beam screen coating of the Future Circular Collider (FCC) [1] and haloscopes, i.e. rf cavities for the axions detection [2]. However, very few data are available in the required regimes. We present in this work measurements of the surface impedance Z up to 12 T on bulk Nb₃Sn and YBCO thin films grown by different techniques. The measurements are performed with a dielectric loaded resonator operating at 15 GHz. We obtained the vortex motion resistivity and extracted the high frequency vortex motion parameters [3]: the depinning frequency, the flux-flow resistivity and the pinning constant, as well as their temperature and field dependences. Substantial differences are highlighted in the high frequency pinning properties of the studied materials, providing useful information on possible improvements in view of applications. A comparison with the results obtained in the microwave frequency range at lower fields (up to 1 T) is given.

Solubility of An(OH) 3 am and An(OH) 3 cr in the presence of Citrate and EDTA

The solubility of An(III), which pertains to Pu(III), Am(III), and Cm(III), in brine is an important contributor in WIPP (Waste Isolation Pilot Plant) performance assessment (PA) models to calculate the potential release of transuranic elements in the near-field environment of the WIPP repository. Americium, although present in much smaller quantities than plutonium (~ 336 kg on year 2033 is potentially WIPP-bound primarily as Am-241), has a significant impact on release due to its higher activity during the earlier times of repository history (~26% initially, decreasing to 17% and ~0% at 1000 and 10,000 years after emplacement) (SOTERM, 2019). Lanthanide analogues such as Nd 3+ possess physical and chemical characteristics that allow them to be used to examine the chemical behavior of trivalent actinides (Lucchini, et al., 2007).

Static stability and control effectiveness of models 12-0 and 34-0 of the vehicle 3 configuration, volume 3

Static stability and control effectiveness characteristics of two 0.004 scale models of the vehicle 3 configuration are reported. The components investigated consisted of a single aft body, vertical/rudder, OMS pods with two interchangeable wings, four interchangeable forward bodies, four trimmers, and a spoiler. The test was conducted in 14 x 14 inch trisonic wind tunnel over a Mach number range from 0.6 to 4.96. Angles of attack from 0 to 60 degrees and angles of sideslip from -10 to 10 degrees at 0, 10, 20,30, and 40 degrees angle of attack were tested. Elevon, body flap, and speed brake deflection composed the parametric considerations. No grit was placed on the models during the test. The tabulated source data and incremental data figures are presented.

Systems design study of the Pioneer Venus spacecraft. Appendices to volume 1, sections 8-11 (part 3 of 3)

Power subsystem cost/weight tradeoffs are discussed for the Venus probe spacecraft. The cost estimations of power subsystem units were based upon DSCS-2, DSP, and Pioneer 10 and 11 hardware design and development and manufacturing experience. Parts count and degree of modification of existing hardware were factored into the estimate of manufacturing and design and development costs. Cost data includes sufficient quantities of units to equip probe bus and orbiter versions. It was based on the orbiter complement of equipment, but the savings in fewer slices for the probe bus balance the cost of the different probe bus battery. The preferred systems for the Thor/Delta and for the Atlas/Centaur are discussed. The weights of the candidate designs were based upon slice or tray weights for functionally equivalent circuitry measured on existing hardware such as Pioneers 10 and 11, Intelsat 3, DSCS-2, or DSP programs. Battery weights were based on measured cell weight data adjusted for case weight or off-the-shelf battery weights. The solar array weight estimate was based upon recent hardware experience on DSCS-2 and DSP arrays.
