Attack detection and localization with adaptive thresholding

According to some embodiments, a system, method, and non-transitory computer readable medium are provided comprising a plurality of real-time monitoring nodes to receive streams of monitoring node signal values over time that represent a current operation of the cyber physical system; and a threat detection computer platform, coupled to the plurality of real-time monitoring nodes, to: receive the monitoring node signal values; compute an anomaly score; compare the anomaly score with an adaptive threshold; and detect that one of a particular monitoring node and a system is outside a decision boundary based on the comparison, and classify that particular monitoring node or system as anomalous. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Measurement of J/psi Production near Threshold in J/psi -> µ+µ-

This dissertation presents a detailed analysis of J/psi photoproduction near the kinematic threshold in the J/psi -> µ+µ- decay channel, based on data collected by the GlueX experiment at Jefferson Lab. The study aims to probe the structure of the proton and the underlying mechanisms of heavy vector quarkonium photoproduction, contributing to a deeper understanding of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) in the non-perturbative regime. The measurement focuses on the total and differential cross-sections of J/psi photoproduction and explores various theoretical models, including two-gluon and three-gluon exchange, open-charm contributions, and potential exotic states like pentaquarks. The experimental setup, featuring a high-precision tagged photon beam and advanced particle identification techniques, allowed for the separation of J/psi events from background processes. The analysis of the J/psi -> µ+µ- channel yields cross-sections that complement previous measurements in the J/psi -> e+e- decay mode, providing new insights into gluon dynamics at low momentum transfer. This work also examines the systematic uncertainties and provides a comprehensive comparison of results with theoretical predictions, highlighting the role of gluon exchange mechanisms in the photoproduction process. The results presented in this dissertation help refine our understanding of proton structure and QCD dynamics, offering a robust dataset for future theoretical and experimental studies in hadronic physics.

Dose measurement based on threshold shift in MOSFET arrays in commercial SRAMS

A new method using an array of MOS transistors isdescribed for measuring dose absorbed from ionizingradiation. Using the array of MOSFETs in a SRAM, a direct measurement of the number of MOS cells which change as a function of applied bias on the SRAM. Since the input and output of a SRAM used as a dosimeter is completely digital, the measurement of dose is easily accessible by a remote processing system.

Investigating the Airspace Safety Threshold of the NAS

As self-separation systems are being developed for integration into the airspace, it is crucial to determine a standard that the systems must meet so that airspace safety does not degrade. To do this, the current level of safety of the NAS (National Airspace System) needs to be determined as a benchmark for comparison. This presentation is an overview of some of the ongoing work being done to evaluate the airspace as it is today. The research analyzes the distribution of encounter statistics of IFR-VFR (Instrument Flight Rules-Visual Flight Rules) traffic using unmodified historical flight data to account for mitigation effects present in the current NAS.

Spectral Threshold for Extremal Cyclic Edge-Connectivity

In this report, the cyclic edge-connectivity of a graph G is the least k such that there exists a set of k edges whose removal disconnects G into components where every component contains a cycle. We show that for graphs of minimum degree at least 3 and girth g at least 4, the cyclic edge-connectivity is bounded above by (Δ-2)g where Δ is the maximum degree. We then prove that if the second eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of a d-regular graph of girth g ≥ 4 is sufficiently small, then the cyclic edge-connectivity is (d-2)g, providing a spectral condition for when this upper bound on cyclic edge-connectivity is tight.

Lower and upper threshold limit for artificial neural network based chilled and condenser water temperatures set-point control in a chilled water system

In this study, an ANN (artificial neural network) based real-time optimized control algorithm for a chilled water cooling system was developed and applied in an actual building to analyze its cooling energy saving effects through in-situ application and actual measurements. For this purpose, the cooling tower’s CndWT (condenser water temperature) and the chiller’s ChWT (chilled water temperature) were set as system control variables. To evaluate algorithm performance, the electric consumption and the COP (coefficient of performance) were compared and analyzed when ChWT and CndWTs were controlled conventionally and controlled based on the ANN. During the analysis, unexpected abnormal data was observed due to insufficient training data and limited consideration of OWBT (outdoor air wet-bulb temperature) when determining the CndWT set-point. Therefore, it is necessary to further build training data from a wider range of conditions and to set the lower limit of CndWT set-point to at least +3.6 °C above OWBT when the OWBT is higher than 23 °C, so that further energy savings can be achieved.
