The STAT7 Code for Statistical Propagation of Uncertainties in Steady State Thermal Hydraulics Analysis of Plate Fueled Reactors

The STAT7 software was developed to perform steady-state thermal hydraulic analyses. Application of the software is for non-power research and test reactors, including conversion to low-enriched uranium fuel of U.S. High-Performance Research Reactors such as MITR-II. Since it can be necessary to repeat analysis during fuel reloading, STAT7 accommodates flexibility in analyzing many realistic aspects of reactor fuel management. STAT7 uses a Monte Carlo approach to model common fabrication parameters and other key reactor analysis uncertainties required for research and test reactor thermal hydraulic analyses. These safety calculations are ultimately intended to protect against high fuel plate temperatures due to critical heat flux or departure from nucleate boiling or onset of flow instability; but additional margin is obtained by basing the limiting safety settings on avoiding onset of nucleate boiling. STAT7 can simultaneously analyze all of the axial nodes of all of the fuel plates and all of the coolant channels for one lateral stripe of a fuel element. The stripes run the length of the fuel, from the bottom to the top. Power splits are calculated for each axial node of each plate to determine how much of the power goes out each face of the plate. By running STAT7 multiple times, full core analysis can be performed by analyzing the margin to onset of nucleate boiling and onset of flow instability for each axial node of each stripe of each plate of each element in the core.

R -Matrix Analysis and Statistical Properties of Dysprosium Isotopes in the Neutron Energy Ranges Up To A Few Kev

In support of the Nuclear Criticality Safety Program, a set of evaluated resonance parameters was generated for seven dysprosium isotopes in the neutron energy range from thermal up to a few keV. The evaluation methodology used the Reich-Moore approximation to fit, with the R-matrix code SAMMY, the high-resolution capture and transmission measurements on natural and enriched samples recently performed at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Gaerttner LINear ACcelerator facility. Additional transmission data measured on enriched samples by Liou at the Columbia University Nevis synchrocyclotron in the mid-seventies were used to gauge the neutron widths above 15 eV. Thermal constants such as absorption and (in)coherent scattering cross sections and corresponding scattering lengths were calibrated to the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s compilation except for 161,164 Dy isotopes.

How is statistical thinking useful for evaluating foundation models?

Good’s statement appears to be rather prescient – while humanity has marched on through to the 21st century, modern artificial intelligence (AI), driven by a menagerie of immense deep-neural-network architectures aided with parallel computation, seems positioned to change life as we know it. It would be an understatement to say that the world has been captivated by AI. Recent engineering feats, such as autonomous vehicles and generative AI, have gripped the public sphere, and AI is poised to disrupt a host of industries – including software, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, manufacturing, entertainment, and a slew of others; indeed, one is hard pressed to find any industry that does not claim to bear an impact from the so-called AI revolution.

Implementation of a Web Interface to Display Real-Time Statistics of a Dilution Refrigerator

The purpose of the project is to communicate with a Bluefors control unit and extract data. The Bluefors control unit is a piece of experimental equipment that measures various different data points in a dilution refrigerator and stores them. The goal was to access the control unit using the websockets library in Python. After accessing the control unit, the goal was to export the data to a web page in HTML/CSS. The tools that were used changed throughout the project. Python was used to communicate with the Bluefors unit via JSON requests and JSON objects, then the Python hosted its own websocket server to act as a proxy server to allow for the web page to access the data. This was done to bypass SSL verification. Then, the web page, which was created using JavaScript, React, Next.js, and NodeJS, accesses the proxy server to import the data from the dilution refrigerator and display the values in real time on the page.
