The sea cucumber (H. glaberrima) is a species found in the shallow waters near coral reefs and seagrass beds in Puerto Rico. To characterize the microbial taxonomic composition and functional profiles present in the sea cucumber, total DNA was obtained from their intestinal system, fosmid libraries constructed, and subsequent sequencing was performed. The diversity profile displayed that the most predominant domain was Bacteria (76.56 %), followed by Viruses (23.24 %) and Archaea (0.04 %). Within the 11 phyla identified, the most abundant was Proteobacteria (73.16 %), followed by Terrabacteria group (3.20 %) and Fibrobacterota, Chlorobiota, Bacteroidota (FCB) superphylum (1.02 %). The most abundant species were Porvidencia rettgeri (21.77 %), Pseudomonas stutzeri (14.78 %), and Alcaligenes faecalis (5.00 %). The functional profile revealed that the most abundant functions are related to transporters, MISC (miscellaneous information systems), organic nitrogen, energy, and carbon utilization. The data collected in this project on the diversity and functional profiles of the intestinal system of the H. glaberrima provided a detailed view of its microbial ecology. These findings may motivate comparative studies aimed at understanding the role of the microbiome in intestinal regeneration.
The deployment of Li-ion batteries covers a wide range of energy storage applications, from mobile phones, e-bikes, electric vehicles (EV) and stationary energy storage systems. However, safety issue such as thermal runaway is always one of the most important concerns to prevent Li-ion batteries from further market penetration. A standardized single-side indentation test protocol was developed to mechanically induce an internal short-circuit. The cell voltage, compressive load, indenter stroke, and temperature at the indentation point are measured in time series. The test data of each cell, along with cell parameters such as dimensions, mass, chemistry, state of charge (SOC), capacity, are integrated together to calculate a thermal runaway severity score from 0 to100. Complete data collection process including the original measured record, test method, severity score calculation scheme is presented in this article. The thermal runaway severity analysis and the more than 100 tested Li-ion battery records provide a good data source for further comparison and ranking of thermal runaway risks.
In this work, a constitutive model for zircaloy-4 embedded with δ-phase hydride rim/blister structures (δ-phase zircaloy hydride) is presented. Nanoindentation and nano-scale impact experiments were performed on the δ-hydride blisters as a function of temperature in order to obtain strain rate dependent location specific constitutive response. A power law viscoplastic constitutive model was chosen to represent the strain rate dependent behavior. The strength coefficient and the strain hardening exponent in the power law relation were found to decrease with increase in temperature indicating softening behavior at higher temperatures. The strain rate exponent remained constant with increase in temperature indicating that the rate dependent ductility does not change significantly at higher temperatures. A finite element method based model was created to analyze the failure behavior and the ductile to brittle transition in zircaloy hydride. The model predicted that fracture strength of δ-phase zircaloy hydride decreases linearly with increase in temperature.

Atom probe tomography, and related methods, probe the three-dimensional architecture of a material. The software tools that microscopists use, and how these tools are connected into workflows, makes a substantial contribution to the accuracy and precision of such a material characterization experiment. Typically, we adapt methods from other communities like mathematics, data science, computational geometry, artificial intelligence, or scientific computing. We also realize that improving on research data management is a challenge when it comes to align with the FAIR data stewardship principles. Faced with this global challenge, we are convinced that collaborating is useful. Here, we report the results and challenges with an inter-laboratory call for developing test cases for several types of atom probe software tools. The results support why defining detailed recipes of software workflows and sharing these recipes is necessary and rewarding: Open source tools and (meta)data exchange can help to make our day-to-day data processing tasks become more efficient, the training of new users and knowledge transfer become easier, and assist us with automated quantification of uncertainties to gain access to substantiated results.

In this study, we use a random forest (RF) model to predict the critical cooling rate (R C ) for glass formation of various alloys from features of their constituent elements. The RF model was trained on a database that integrates multiple sources of direct and indirect R C data for metallic glasses to expand the directly measured R C database of less than 100 values to a training set of over 2000 values. The model error on 5-fold cross-validation (CV) is 0.66 orders of magnitude in K/s. The error on leave-out-one-group CV on alloy system groups is 0.59 log units in K/s when the target alloy constituents appear more than 500 times in training data. Using this model, we make predictions for the set of compositions with melt-spun glasses in the database and for the full set of quaternary alloys that have constituents which appear more than 500 times in training data. These predictions identify a number of potential new bulk metallic glass systems for future study, but the model is most useful for the identification of alloy systems likely to contain good glass formers rather than detailed discovery of bulk glass composition regions within known glassy systems.
