Magnetic contribution of itinerant electrons to neutron diffraction in the topological antiferromagnet CeAlGe

We report a neutron diffraction study of the magnetic structure of CeAlGe, a candidate topological semimetal that hosts a noncollinear, multi-𝐤 magnetic phase. By measuring both low- and high-momentum-transfer magnetic Bragg peaks within a single experimental setup, we refine a magnetic structure model based solely on localized Ce moments. This model, which differs from that obtained using only high-𝑄 data, quantitatively reproduces the observed intensities, including the (000) zeroth-order magnetic satellites that are especially sensitive to subtle components of the modulation. While a contribution from itinerant electrons to the zeroth satellite cannot be definitively excluded, our analysis reveals no unambiguous evidence for such effects within experimental uncertainty. The refined magnetic structures exhibit topologically nontrivial winding patterns, derived from the fitted magnetic parameters, that support localized, particle-like spin textures with half-integer topological charges. These features provide a natural microscopic origin for the observed topological Hall effect, establishing CeAlGe as a model system where magnetism and topology are intimately linked.

Quantum metric nonlinear Hall effect in a topological antiferromagnetic heterostructure

Quantum geometry in condensed matter physics has two components: the real part quantum metric and the imaginary part Berry curvature. Whereas the effects of Berry curvature have been observed through phenomena such as the quantum Hall effect in 2D electron gases and the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in ferromagnets, quantum metric has rarely been explored. Here, in this paper, we report a nonlinear Hall effect induced by quantum metric dipole by interfacing even-layered MnBi 2 Te 4 with black phosphorus. The quantum metric nonlinear Hall effect switches direction upon reversing the AFM spins and exhibits distinct scaling that is independent of the scattering time. Our results open the door to discovering quantum metric responses predicted theoretically and pave the way for applications that bridge nonlinear electronics with AFM spintronics.

Impact of Erbium Doping in the Structural and Magnetic Properties of the Anisotropic and Frustrated SrYb 2 O 4 Antiferromagnet

We present a systematic study of the structural and magnetic properties of a series of powder samples of SrYb 2-x Er x O 4 with different Yb/Er concentrations. Magnetometry and neutron diffraction have been used to study the magnetic ground states of the compound series, while inelastic neutron scattering was used to investigate the crystal field excitations for a chosen concentration. These results show that the crystal structure remains the same for all compositions, while the lattice parameters increase linearly with the Er content. All compounds showed some type of magnetic transition below 1 K, however, both the magnetic structure and nature of the phase transition vary throughout the series. The samples present a non-collinear magnetic structure with the moments lying on the ab plane for low Er content. For high Er content, the magnetic structure is collinear with the moments aligned along the c-axis. A critical concentration is found where there is a bifurcation between zero-field and field-cooled magnetic susceptibility. This irreversible process could be due to the random mixture of single-ion magnetic anisotropies.

Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of the Breathing Kagome Ising Antiferromagnet Yb 3 Ni 11 Ge 4.63

We have investigated magnetic properties of the rare-earth based intermetallic compound Yb 3 Ni 11 Ge 4.63 (YNG), where Yb 3+ ions form a breathing-kagome lattice. Single-site 4f electron wavefunctions of the ground-state doublet are deduced from magnetization and heat capacity measurements. The Weiss temperatures are quite anisotropic as Θ a = -0.01(2) K (H ∥ a) and Θ c = -0.67(2) K (H ∥ c), indicating Ising-like spin–spin interactions dominating in this compound. Low-temperature neutron diffraction confirms absence of magnetic Bragg peaks down to 0.05 K, whereas enhancement of broad peaks below 0.8 K was observed, a signature of short-range spin correlations. Furthermore, competing interactions on the breathing-kagome lattice would suppress a magnetic long-range order in YNG.

Phase diagram of the frustrated spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet in two dimensions

A Lanczos technique is used to study the frustrated spin-1/2 Heisenberg model on square lattices of 16 and 20 sites. Frustration is introduced by an interaction along the diagonals of the plaquettes with coupling J2 greater than or equal to 0. For large J2, the ground state breaks (spontaneously) the lattice rotational symmetry. For intermediate values of J2, the squares of order parameters associated with spin-Peierls and 'twisted'states have a peak, while a similar quantity for a chiral state shows no interesting structure.
