A world leader in space technology, JPL has over 30 years experience in developing spacecraft systems and managing deep space missions for NASA. Future scientific missions will require the rapid development of small, lightweight, high-technology, low-cost spacecraft. JPL is developing a method of meeting these requirements: a test facility specifically for supporting a rapid prototyping development environment that creates a virtual (simulated) spacecraft in which system-level evaluations of components can be carried out very early in the development cycle, long before an actual spacecraft is built.

This paper presents initial results that demonstrate the end-to-end operation of the Micro-Precision
VIGILANTE consists of two major components:1. the Viewing Imager/Gimballed Instrumentation Laboratory (VIGIL)- advanced infrared, visible, and ultraviolet sensors with appropriate optics and camera electronics & 2. the Analog Neural Three-dimensional processing Experiment (ANTE)-a massively parallel, neural network-based, high-speed processor.
The end of regularly scheduled Microgravity Science Payload (MSP), shuttle mission(s), the severely limited ability to accommodate the existing low temperature flight hardware on other carriers, and the anticipated delays in the development schedule for the International Space Station (ISS) in combination have left low temperature microgravity investigations with few (if any) flight opportunities until several years into the next millennium.
In 2005, NASA's Origins Program will launch the Space Interferometry Mission (SIM), a 10 meter optical interferometer instrument, into a circular 900 km earth orbit.
This paper will compare the performance of various algorithms using the MAM data, and will aid in our recommendation of how the SIM flight system should process the science and guide interferometer data.
