2.5D HI Packaging of the Power Converter using TSV interposer.

Abstract: Advantages of the 2.5D HI (Heterogeneous Integration) electronics packaging of the power electronics compared to PCB packaging will be presented. Current 2.5D packaging effort using TSV (Through Silicon Via) will be presented in terms of fabrication, microstructural analysis, reliability, and thermal simulation.

Co-Located Wave Energy Converter (WEC) and Aquaculture System Annotated Bibliography

This annotated bibliography includes references that could aid in the design of a co-located WEC and aquaculture system off the coast of Guam. The breadth of this work covers multiple co-location archetypes such as: 1. WEC seawater desalination system a) Nearshore and deepwater WEC deployment b) Onshore and offshore aquaculture 2. WEC powering an offshore aquaculture platform a) Nearshore or deepwater WEC deployment 3. WEC powering an onshore aquaculture system a) Nearshore WEC deployment 4. Wave powered seawater pump a) Nearshore WEC deployment b) Onshore aquaculture There are two archetypes that may be of immediate interest to the community in Guam are to service the existing Fadian Hatchery (Mangilao) and to support freshwater aquaculture activities. First, the seawater pump at the hatchery that fills the facility’s seawater storage unit is broken. A nearshore seawater pumping WEC could be a solution to this issue. In addition, due to the high frequency of typhoons/extreme conditions and the island’s bathymetry, the likelihood of community support for an offshore aquaculture platform or WEC deployed in deepwater is low. Proactive and resilient solutions not just for power, but for freshwater are of interest as well to support any freshwater aquaculture activities. Therefore, a nearshore WEC desalination system is another archetype to consider.

Megawatt-Class, High-Voltage SiC Power Electronics Converters for Advanced Manufacturing with Grid Support Services

DE-EE0009135 aimed to push the 10kV SiC MOSFET based power electronics to 3-phase 13.8kV 10MW to be used as a Megawatt Class Medium-Voltage Power Conditioning Systems – PCS – to enable “Resilient Distribution through Grid-dispatching and Uninterrupted Quality Power to Manufacturing Facilities” during transitory grid disturbances. As a stretch to those goals, Eaton added the load power peak shaving opportunity.

Scan2Sim: Software to Convert Network Scans to Emulations

Within operational technology (OT) systems design, the construction of testing environments for simulation is often a tedious, manual process that slows down safety and security evaluations. This document details the design and functionality of Scan2Sim, a program designed to construct high-fidelity topological schematics for OT systems without significant manual human input. Scan2Sim may take as input a detailed network scan of a system, and produces an instruction set to re-create the original scanned network within a virtualized simulation network. This construction is achieved via heuristic methods of machine template selection, which allows for a fast, performant approach to automated environment construction. The current tool is designed to produce topology schematics compatible with the Minimega, a tool designed by Sandia National Laboratories for repeatable experimentation management.

Converting methoxy groups on lignin-derived aromatics from a toxic hurdle to a useful resource: a systems-driven approach

Lignin conversion to bioproducts is challenging for several reasons, including the toxicity generated from the abundant methoxy groups released as formaldehyde. Consequently, our project used the best understood methylotroph – for which there is growing knowledge of formaldehyde stress responses – to explore how genetic factors and single-cell phenotypic heterogeneity contribute to growth and production. Our major goals were to (1) understand the fundamentals of Methylobacterium growth on aromatics, (2) identify and understand the basis of physiological basis of single-cell heterogeneity, and (3) develop quantitative models that relate heterogeneity to physiological and evolutionary outcomes.
