Response to comment on ‘SARS-CoV-2 suppresses anticoagulant and fibrinolytic gene expression in the lung’

Early in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, we compared transcriptome data from hospitalized COVID-19 patients and control patients without COVID-19. We found changes in procoagulant and fibrinolytic gene expression in the lungs of COVID-19 patients. These findings have been challenged based on issues with the samples. We have revisited our previous analyses in the light of this challenge and find that these new analyses support our original conclusions.

On-chip spectroscopic sensors with optical fringe suppression

An on-chip spectroscopic sensor includes a tunable diode laser. A laser driver for drives the tunable diode laser. An analyte test cavity receives a chemical sample and exposes the received chemical sample to light from the tunable diode laser. An optical detector detects light emerging from the analyte test cavity as a result of the laser exposure. A spectral analyzer determines a spectrum of the emerging light, matches and removes one or more known optical fringe patterns from the determined spectrum, and determines a composition or concentration of the chemical sample from the optical fringe pattern-removed spectrum.

Metal stack templates for suppressing secondary grains in sca1n

A metal stack for templating the growth of AlN and ScAlN films is disclosed. The metal stack comprises one, two, or three layers of metal, each of which is compatible with CMOS post-processing. The metal stack provides a template that promotes the growth of highly textured c-axis {002} AlN and ScAlN films. The metal stacks include one or more metal layers with each metal layer having either a hexagonal {002} orientation or a cubic {111} orientation. If the metal stack includes two or more metal layers, the layers can alternate between hexagonal {002} and cubic {111} orientations. The use of ScAlN results in a higher piezoelectric constant compared to that of AlN for ScAlN alloys up to approximately 44% Sc. The disclosed metal stacks resulted in ScAlN films having XRD FWHM values of less than approximately 1.1° while significantly reducing the formation of secondary grains in the ScAlN films.

Mesoscale system feedback-induced dissipation and noise suppression

A high-gain and low-noise negative feedback control (“feedback control”) system can detect charge transfer in quantum systems at room temperatures. The feedback control system can attenuate dissipative coupling between a quantum system and its thermodynamic environment. The feedback control system can be integrated with standard commercial voltage-impedance measurement system, for example, a potentiostat. In one aspect, the feedback control system includes a plurality of electrodes that are configured to electrically couple to a sample, and a feedback mechanism coupled to a first electrode of the plurality of electrodes. The feedback mechanism is configured to detect a potential associated with the sample via the first electrode. The feedback mechanism provides a feedback signal to the sample via a second electrode of the plurality of electrodes, the feedback signal is configured to provide excitation control of the sample at a third electrode of the plurality of electrode.
