Leaf temperature raw data, 2015 - 2017, at Manaus, Brazil

This data package contains raw leaf surface temperature data from the NGEE Tropics K34 tower site on a plateau near Manaus, Brazil, including automated and manually collected time series data on leaf surface temperature (thermocouples, IR radiometer, thermocamera). Leaf surface temperature (LST) was determined throughout diurnal periods using individual type T thermocouples (Omega Engineering) on 8 individual leaves of a single tree. Mature leaves at the same height and general area near the tower were selected. LST measurements were taken every 15 s and recorded on a field portable self-powered data logger (OM-CP-OCTTEMP-A, Omega Engineering). Measurements were stopped in the case of a storm or rain which can remove the attached thermocouple wires from the leaf due to large wind-driven branch movements. Included in the attached zip file are six folders: three with LST data in Excel and CSV file formats from both the K34 and B34 towers, one folder with data logger configuration programs that were used for data collection, a fifth folder with PDF files of manuals for instruments used and a final folder with two Excel metadata files. See dataset references for associated metadata package. This dataset replaces the leaf surface temperature data of two retired packages, http://dx.doi.org/10.15486/ngt/1507764 and http://dx.doi.org/10.15486/ngt/1507767

The impact of alternative trait-scaling hypotheses for the maximum photosynthetic carboxylation rate (Vcmax) on global gross primary production. New Phytologist 215, 1370–1386. https://doi.org/10.1111/nph.14623. This dataset contains maximum carboxylation rate at 25 ºC (Vcmax,25), Gross Primary Production (GPP), Net Biome Production (NBP), vegetation carbon, and soil carbon data from Sheffield Dynamic Global Vegetation Model (SDGVM) for multiple trait-scaling methods for scaling Vcmax,25 across Earth, and alternative instantaneous temperature scaling functions. Vcmax,25 values are mean top-leaf values taken during the growing seasons, which were defined as periods during which leaf area index (LAI) was greater than one. Vcmax,25 values were reported prior to scaling of Vcmax by water-stress or leaf-age. The attached metadata file (SDGVM_vcmax_dataset.docx) describes the methods used and explains the organization of data within the included .zip file. This metadata file is also included in PDF format.

Leaf gas exchange and fitted parameters, two sites in Panama, 2022

Photosynthetic CO2 response curves (ACi curves), light response curves (AQ curves), dark adapted dark respiration, conductance curves, and survey measurements for leaves measured in the Parque Natural Metropolitano (PNM) and Gamboa, Panama, from January to April 2022 are presented. Measurements were made on leaves from 46 different tree, shrub and liana species, from sunlit canopy and understory locations. Leaf area index from 8 vertical profiles at PNM are also included. The aim of this measurement campaign was three-fold: (i) to improve our understanding of the vertical variation in leaf-level water use efficiency; (ii) to develop an understanding of the sensitivity of stomata to changes in environmental conditions, especially light, humidity, and temperature; (iii) to improve models which can predict leaf traits from leaf contact spectral measurements. All the gas exchange data and metadata are presented in .csv files and complete instrument output are included in .zip folders. Data and metadata meet the ESS-DIVE leaf-level gas exchange reporting format requirements. The protocol details are provided as pdf documents. In addition to gas exchange data reported here these samples were also used for measurement of leaf optical properties, carbon and nitrogen content, and leaf mass per unit leaf area (LMA). These data can be cross linked using the unique sample ID and are provided in separate data packages.
