A product having at least one plasma lamp that includes plates that are approximately parallel, with at least one array of microcavities formed in a surface of at least one plate. When desirable, the plates are separated a fixed distance by spacers with at least one spacer being placed near the plate's edge to form a hermetic seal therewith. A gas makes contact with the microcavity array. Electrodes capable of delivering a time-varying voltage are located such that the application of the time-varying voltage interacts with the gas to form a glow discharge plasma in the microcavities and the fixed volume between the plates. The glow discharge plasma efficiently and uniformly emits radiation that is predominantly in the UV/VUV spectral range with at least a portion of the radiation being emitted from the plasma lamp.
Objectives and motivation• Provide data for fuel qualification in support of reactor licensing• Establish a domestic commercial TRISO fuel fabrication capability Approach • Focus is on developing and testing UCO TRISO fuel –Develop fuel fabrication and QC measurement methods, first at lab scale and then at industrial scale –Perform irradiation testingover a range of conditions (burnup, temperature, fast neutron fluence) –Perform post-irradiation examination and safety testingto demonstrate and understand performance during irradiation and during accident conditions –Develop fuel performance modelsto better predict fuel behavior –Perform fission product transport experiments to improve understanding and refine models of fission product transport

A method loading powder into a mold can include immersing the mold comprising one or more microchannels into a suspension comprising the powder and a surfactant suspended in a dispersant, wherein the powder comprises particles having an average particle size of less than 100 μm, wherein the mold is substantially entirely covered by the suspension; heating the suspension having the mold immersed therein under a temperature condition suitable to lower the stability of the particles of the powder in the suspension such that the particles settle out of solution and into the one or more microchannels; and applying an ultrasonic wave to the heated suspension to further settle the particles of the powder into the one or more microchannels thereby filling the one or more microchannels of the mold with the powder.

By first exploring the limitations of thick planer electrodes, advanced predictive models were prepared to identify optimal electrode patterns for improved cycling performance. Herein, the impact of electrode laser patterning will be discussed in detail. First, materials characterization techniques (SEM-EDS, XRD) were used to explore the effect ultrafast laser ablation had on the electrode materials' morphology and structure. Next, the improvements in the patterned electrodes' electrochemical cycling performances and degrees of wetting will be compared to a pristine baseline case. Finally, the correlation between experimentally obtained data and model predictions will be presented and discussed.
