Flow matching beyond kinematics: Generating jets with particle identification and trajectory displacement information

We introduce the first generative model trained on the etlass dataset. Our model generates jets at the constituent level, and it is a permutation-equivariant continuous normalizing flow (CNF) trained with the flow matching technique. It is conditioned on the jet type, so that a single model can be used to generate the ten different jet types of etlass. For the first time, we also introduce a generative model that goes beyond the kinematic features of jet constituents. The etlass dataset includes more features, such as particle-ID and track impact parameter, and we demonstrate that our CNF can accurately model all of these additional features as well. Our generative model for etlass expands on the versatility of existing jet generation techniques, enhancing their potential utility in high-energy physics research, and offering a more comprehensive understanding of the generated jets. Minimization of Atomic Displacements as a Guiding Principle of the Martensitic Phase Transformation

I this article, we present a unifying description for the martensitic transformation of steel that accounts for important experimentally observable features of the transformation, namely, the Neumann bands, the interfacial (habit) plane between the transformed and untransformed phases and their orientation relationship. It is obtained through a simple geometric minimization of the total distance traveled by all the atoms from the austenite (fcc or γ) phase to the martensite (bcc or α) phase, without the need for any explicit energy minimization. Our description unites previously proposed mechanisms but it does not rely on assumptions and experimental knowledge regarding the shear planes and directions, or external adjustable parameters. We show how the Kurdjumov-Sach orientation relationship between the two phases and the {225}$_γ$ habit plane, which have both been extensively reported in experiments, naturally emerge from the distance minimization. We also propose an explanation for the occurrence of a different orientation relationship (Pitsch) in thin films.

Search for Nearly Mass-Degenerate Higgsinos Using Low-Momentum Mildly Displaced Tracks in 𝑝⁢𝑝 Collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

Higgsinos with masses near the electroweak scale can solve the hierarchy problem and provide a dark matter candidate, while detecting them at the LHC remains challenging if their mass splitting is 𝒪⁡(1 GeV). This Letter presents a novel search for nearly mass-degenerate Higgsinos in events with an energetic jet, missing transverse momentum, and a low-momentum track with a significant transverse impact parameter using 140 fb −1 of proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment. For the first time since LEP, a range of mass splittings between the lightest charged and neutral Higgsinos from 0.3 to 0.9 GeV is excluded at 95% confidence level, with a maximum reach of approximately 170 GeV in the Higgsino mass.

Search for Light Long-Lived Particles in $pp$ Collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV Using Displaced Vertices in the ATLAS Inner Detector

A search for long-lived particles (LLPs) using 140 fb -1 of pp collision data with $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC is presented. The search targets LLPs with masses between 5 and 55 GeV that decay hadronically in the ATLAS inner detector. Benchmark models with LLP pair production from exotic decays of the Higgs boson and models featuring long-lived axionlike particles (ALPs) are considered. No significant excess above the expected background is observed. Upper limits are placed on the branching ratio of the Higgs boson to pairs of LLPs, the cross section for ALPs produced in association with a vector boson, and, for the first time, on the branching ratio of the top quark to an ALP and a u/c quark.
