Turbine blade thermal fatigue testing Pratt and Whitney aircraft hollow core blades

The results of low cycle fatigue testing on turbine blades for use in hydrogen/oxygen rocket engines is presented. Cored blade and cored blades with circulation were tested in the MSFC thermal fatigue tester. Both blade configurations showed significant low cycle fatigue life improvements when compared to baseline solid blades.

Effect of pituitary hollow fiber units and thyroid supplementation on growth in the little mouse (41949)

It is shown that the implantation of encapsulated pituitary cells into heterozygous lit/+ mice inhibited the average percentage change in weight gain as compared to controls. However, homozygous lit/lit mice receiving cell-filled capsules consistently had higher percentage weight gains than their control counterparts. It was also found that thyroid-supplemented mutant mice with pituitary cell implants had significantly higher organ and carcass weights than other mutant groups.

Axially symmetric pulse propagation in semi-infinite hollow cylinders

The effects of dispersion and end conditions on axially symmetric pulse propagation in semiinfinite tubes are investigated. Numerical modeling of the dynamic response is accomplished using a stable and efficient finite element and wave propagation based method. This method yields the dispersive and modal data required to express displacements in a frequency domain modal expansion. Boundary conditions are applied to the tube end to obtain mode amplitudes. A fast Fourier transform is then used to get the time response. The specific end conditions considered are intended to give some insight into how the tube would behave as a member of a jointed truss structure.

Effect of bluntness on transition for a cone and a hollow cylinder at Mach 3.1

Bluntness was more effective in displacing transition downstream on a cylinder than on a cone. The downstream displacement of transition is related to the formation of a shock layer within which the Reynolds and Mach numbers are reduced and to pressure gradients that exist over the forward part of the model. Round bluntness in general had a favorable effect, whereas sharp-cornered flat bluntness above a certain size had unfavorable effects on the location of the transition point.
