Highly loaded multi-stage fan drive turbine: Plain blade configuration design

The constant-inside-diameter flowpath was scaled for testing in an existing turbine test facility. Blading detailed design is discussed, and design data are summarized. Predicted performance maps are presented. Steady-state stresses and vibratory behavior are discussed and the results of the mechanical design analysis are presented.

Highly loaded multi-stage fan drive turbine: Leaned stator configuration design

The results of the high lift blade configuration design study are reported. The three-stage constant-inside-diameter turbine utilizes a ten degree tangentially leaned stator in stage three. All other bladerows use plain blades. Analysis of the leaned stator is discussed, and detailed design data are summarized. Steady-state stresses are discussed, and the results of the mechanical design analysis are presented.

Highly loaded multi-stage fan drive turbine-tandem blade configuration design

The results of the tandem blade configuration design study are reported. The three stage constant-inside-diameter turbine utilizes tandem blading in the stage two and stage three vanes and in the stage three blades. All other bladerows use plain blades. Blading detailed design is discussed, and design data are summarized. Steady-state stresses and vibratory behavior are discussed, and the results of the mechanical design analysis are presented.

Optimal filtering in the presence of unmodeled time correlated driving disturbances.

In many realistic data filtering problems, the cross correlation of the state estimation error and the state forcing function is unknown due to the poor knowledge of the time history of the forcing function. In this paper, the conservative and minimal approximation to the cross correlation terms is presented. It requires only the knowledge of the estimation error covariance and the forcing function covariance, with the choice of an associated free parameter left to the user. If the estimation error covariance and/or the forcing function covariance are bounded from above but not known exactly, the cross correlation approximation using those upper bounds remains conservative. This cross correlation approximation leads to a conservative approximation to the estimation error covariance matrix differential equation between measurement times. The free parameter is determined as the analytic solution to an associated optimal control problem. The procedure is expanded to include discrete linear measurement incorporation.

Highly loaded multi-stage fan drive turbine-cascade test program

Test results are presented for 19 cascades involving five plain and two tandem blade sections. High camber and/or negative reaction is associated with six of the sections. Exit Mach numbers range up to slightly above sonic. Cascade efficiency, exit flow angle and static pressure, and blade surface pressure data are reported with incidence angle, Mach number, solidity, and relative position of the tandem blades as independent variables.

Analysis of the computed torque drive method and comparison with conventional position servo for a computer-controlled manipulator

A manipulator and its control system (modeled after a Stanford design) is being developed as part of an artificial intelligence project. This development includes an analytical study of the control system software. A comparison is presented of the computed torque method and the conventional position servo. No conclusion is made as to the perference of one system over the other, as it is dependent upon the application and the results of a sampled data analysis.

Driving lamps by induction

An electrodeless lamp circuit with a coil surrounding a krypton lamp is driven by an RF input source. A coil surrounding a mercury lamp is tapped across the connection of the input central to the krypton-lamp coil. Each coil is connected in parallel with separate capacitors which form resonant circuits at the input frequency.

Rotary solenoid shutter drive assembly and rotary inertia damper and stop plate assembly

A camera shutter assembly composed of a pair of superposed opaque planar shutter blades, each having an aperture and being arranged for reciprocal linear movement is disclosed. A pair of rotary solenoids, each connected to one of the blades by a linkage and arranged to be actuated separately at a predetermined interval is provided. An inertia damper and stop plate is built into each solenoid to prevent rebound.
